Arriving late for camp didn't dislodge him. Neither did injury.

Despite all of that, Ohio State product Cie Grant still has the full support of New Orleans Saints coach Jim Haslett - a former All-Pro linebacker with Buffalo.

Grant, a third-round pick in 2003, got behind during his rookie season - and never caught up.

"The problem he had last year is he couldn't be here in the offseason because of the four-quarter rule - and he got behind," Haslett said. "He never made any of the offseason programs because he had to stay in school - and, for a linebacker, it's probably devastating if you aren't here learning the defense when everyone else is here."

Unfortunately I think Will Smith will be a product of the same four-quarter rule this year.

I\'ve read conflicting reports on that. Even if he does, I think the learning curve is shorter for a DE than MLB. Plus, he\'s not going to be starting anyway. He\'ll be worked into the defense on passing downs as a rushing specialist. I think!!

i could be wrong on this but i believe that it means that a player drafted cannot join the team until his final college semester is finished... for example at ohio state, the college semester doesnt end until late may or early june so grant couldnt join the team until then, just like will smith this year... they cant participate in anything until they are finished with college this year.... hope that was helpful enough

Key points of the article-

1. \"Donté is a guy, when he’s healthy, he’s one of the best players in the league. Him and Randy Moss are the only guys (where) in every game they play, they score a touchdown.\"

Now, I haven\'t validated this, but if it is true, all I can say is \'Wow\'. I\'ve always thought Donte had the potential to be a great receiver, but that would be an impressive stat. It amazes me that he doesn\'t get as much credit as he should, despite the injuries. Can\'t remember who said it, but it was something to the effect of, \"Donte wouldn\'t even rank in the top 5 receivers in this draft (ie 2004 draft),\" which I thought was an incorrect statement. Nice size, great hands, amazing speed, tremendous leaping ability (not like Horn, but better than most).

2. It gives us the flexibility of putting Darren on the inside on third down.

Ohh, now that\'s interesting. Moving a equally good against both rush and pass defensive end to the inside, and bringing Smith in at right end? I\'m salivating....

3. Jay Bellamy and Mel Mitchell will battle at free safety.

Did I iss something or is this a typo?

4. Grant was \"Shrek,\"

If the shoe fits.....

for donte\'s career, he has played in 24 games, started 10 and has scored 11 TDs so i guess u could say \"he starts, he scores!!\"

this info comes from NFL.com

Not really Gator...I\'m just saying he\'ll start a little behind. Grant had some injuries too that slowed him down, and hopefully Smith won\'t.
