An Appreciation of Pierre Thomas

A little over five years ago, just after the 2007 NFL Draft (April 30, to be exact), the New Orleans Saints signed a little-known UDFA running back out of Illinois, Pierre Thomas, to a three-year rookie contract, and little did we all know that it would turn out to be the beginning of a beautiful relationship.

I have to admit I never thought he would make it. After his first season I thought he had the talent, but would have durability issues. Im glad I was wrong.

I wasn't sold on him either, especially after watching Deuce be The Man!

I am a huge PT fan. Always have been. He just gets better every year. And he doesn't seem to be slowing down. Mighty Mouse is a heck of a player too but my loyalty is to Pierre Thomas. Who Dat baby! :bng:

Was pimping him when many said that OSU chump would get the nod.

Great balance, good hands, great vision.

Why this guy went undrafted is amazing to me.

On the 21st of October 2007 I took my Wife to her first Saints game. We were playing the Falcons and I was sitting next to a Falcons fan. At one point I turned to him and said 'we have a guy called Pierre Thomas that had a good pre-season. I hope they bring him on'. no sooner had I said that, on came pierre Thomas and ran for a score. I turned to the guy and said 'THAT'S Pierre Thomas. Watch out for him'. We won the game on a Reggie Bush touchdown with around 5 minutes left in the game (he actually fought hard against a few defenders to get it too)
The reason I tell this story is because it makes me sound like I know what I am talking about, and that makes me happy.

I remember that play, Pierre darting up the middle and broke a tackle to the outside, think it was a 25 yard run, really made you realise who Pierre Thomas is.
He's an amazing player, fights for every yard

In 2007 the Saints drafted Antonio Pittman in the 4th round it was almost a given that he would get the spot. Then outta nowhere this undrafted free agent outta Illinois steals the preseason spot light with his high energy motor and great field vision. That was a fun preseason. I, along with most Saints fans, have been rooting for him ever since. Being just one of the Fleet of backs the Saints have on the roster, sometimes he doesn't get the credit he deserves.

Pierre Thomas came over to the crowd of us, at training camp in Mississippi, when he was a supposed camp body, and signed autographs, posed for pictures, and boy am I glad we got those from him. He was super nice to me and my kids, but I had no idea he make the final roster, much less eventually score two TDs in a Super Bowl. All class.

That lick he took in the Frisco game is the only time I can remember someone hitting him square, and that was only because he didn't have a chance to get eyes on that guy. I truely believe he would have been a difference maker in that game had he been able to slip that head banger. PT always seems to fall forward, getting the extra yards even after contact. His ability to make defenders miss gives our offense an extra punch on almost every one of his touches. Pierre Thomas is a great part of our ten pronged attack. I sure hope we can keep it going.
