Saints | Stallworth a Workaholic in Offseason - from www.KFFL.com
Sun, 16 May 2004 08:27:58 -0700

John McClain, of the Houston Chronicle, reports New Orleans Saints WR Donte Stallworth has shown a strong work ethic this offseason in order to prepare for the upcoming season. Stallworth has changed his diet, reduced his body fat to less than 8 percent, has gotten stronger and has learned new stretching techniques to help him avoid the leg injuries that have plagued him in his brief NFL career. "I told him the other day I was proud of him," coach Jim Haslett said. "He's starting to take care of his body and learning what it takes to be a pro. If he keeps it up, he's going to have a big year."

Two things I like about this article. Obviously I like that Donte is working so hard. I'm gunning for him in my fantasy football league around the second/third round. The second is Haslett's fatherly accolades to his player. I don't have a good idea of what the players think of Haslett but as Jesus said, a kind word turneth away wrath.
That sounds like a good leader to me.

....that may be true, but I think it was Moses who recommended stretching quads and hamstrings *thorougly* before taking the field....

Coaching sessions began today. Haslett on Stallworth: \" He caught the ball real well and has shown major improvement\". The coach had similar praise for Donte\' this past sunday night on 4th down on 4 as he indicated that Donte\' has matured and believes the injury bug is behind him as well as him having a good grasp of the system now.

This is a bit off-topic because I realize the topic wasn\'t created to talk FF, however...you can get basically any WR (aside from r.moss, owens & harrison) in the 2nd round, why would you use a 2nd round pick on Stallworth? Generally you go RB, RB with the first two picks. I like Stallworth, but I don\'t think he should be considered in the first 7-8 rounds, much less the 2nd. I haven\'t done my own FF rankings this year yet, get but off hand I can think of at least a dozen WR\'s I would take before him. He is on my sleeper list, but I wouldn\'t reach for him.

Especially since the guy had an off year last year. Unless you\'re in a league with all Saints fans, Stallworth should be on the board until late. (i.e. 7th round or later... unless there are a bunch of articles written about him being a sleeper or you\'re in a league with a lot of Saints fans).

I went WR-WR with my first two picks last year and won the league last year. If you focus on one position with your first two picks you\'ll miss out on some quality players.
Maybe a second round pick would be a little hasty. But at the end of the third round where I\'ll be picking is not a bad idea. Trust me, he will not be available in round seven.

You were probably in a league with a bunch of idiots then. RB\'s are the most valuable players in FF, hands down. And they are the hardest to get. There is at least a 2-1ratio for good WR\'s to good RB\'s. The only WR really that can put up points like a RB is Randy Moss, and thats only if your league counts receptions.

You\'re always quick to call people idiots and to be honest I haven\'t seen one post from you that shows me any mental superiority to any of the posters on this site.

I suppose that you think that there is only one form of fantasy football. The league that I\'m in plays with points being awarded to receivers who get between 100 and 150 yards receiving besides the 6 points they get from scoring touchdowns. When the eight guys before you all pick rb\'s leaving Randy Moss and Marvin Harrison for you, only an \"idiot\" would pass them up.

By the way, the idiots that I played with are all employed at the ESPN Zone in Anchorage. They know quite a bit about football.

You can know every last detail about football, but it doesn\'t mean you know how to play FF.

I know there are several types of FF. And in every form, RB\'s are the most valuable players out there.

I said you were probably in a league full of idiots because the teams who go WR, WR - in the leagues I have played in - are usually the teams that gets walked over by everyone. Unless you get lucky and find a couple RB\'s in the next few rounds...you stand little chance playing with good FF players.

There are at least 9 RB\'s you should take before even thinking about a WR, and I would take between 13-14 RB\'s before going to a WR, other than Randy Moss. I said before, he is really the only WR worth a high pick...so you saying anyone would be an idiot to pass him up is just redundant. Even-so, there are probably 10 RB\'s I would take before Moss and wouldn\'t even think twice about taking those 10 guys. And even so, we are talking about Donte Stallworth in the 2nd or 3rd rounds here, not Randy Moss in the late 1st.
