Will Drew sign long term deal or sign franchise tag?

What do you guys think and why?

|Mitch| 07-09-2012 06:17 PM

Have you noticed you make a different Drew signing thread daily?

TXGSP 07-09-2012 06:24 PM

Doesn't matter, he plays either way. Just gives Saints a direction for the year after.

I disagree. I believe he plays under the tag, as opposed to sitting out, but it Does matter. If we don't sign him to a long term deal this year, I don't see it happening next year. Which, would suck.

Saints4lyfe 07-09-2012 07:13 PM

I'm thinking under the tag as well :(

halloween 65 07-09-2012 07:25 PM

I said tag just because of Payton being suspended. I also want to see how Brees performs without Payton being there before we morgage the farm. Don't get me wrong I think Brees is great but I truly love my Saints and only want what is best for years to come. There will be the Saints long after Drew is gone.

I just hate the thought of him going somewhere the year after. Especially since we don't have a 1st round pick next year and there are really not a whole lot of good QB options in the class. I am floored that this has not been long taken care of.

Having Brees is the best option for us to win a Super Bowl in the next 6 years or so. Even if we do have to sacrifice some talent and risk having a rebuilding spell, which we will have anyway once Brees leaves.

Rugby Saint II 07-09-2012 07:45 PM

Long term deal. It's the only way really.

Get over it, Dude. You are getting frickin' weirded out. Take a vacation. Get over this obsession. There is ZERO chance that Brees does not sign a long term deal. Your incessant pessimism is really getting old. There is no way over the past two months that the deal would get done before this coming weekend at the earliest.

saintsfan1976 07-09-2012 08:55 PM

.

I didn't see a selection for "Chop Condon's Head Off"

RockyMountainSaint 07-09-2012 08:59 PM

Buzz builds that Brees could play under franchise tag | ProFootballTalk

ChrisXVI 07-09-2012 09:00 PM

Under the tag. I just don't see the deal happening guys. They've had a year now of talking about a new contract : (

saintsfan1976 07-09-2012 09:12 PM

Frankie says R E L A X fellas.

The deal will get done.

CharityMike 07-09-2012 09:22 PM

His image as the Who Dat Nation, walking on water God, has taken a mighty blow with this mess. It is common knowledge we have now tried 3 times to make him highest paid QB, which seems to be what he really cares about. Even though he says thats not his objective, his actions thus far sing a different tune. I don't know what to think anymore.

saintsfan1976 07-09-2012 09:25 PM

C'mon Mike, let's not act like we know what's really going on in Drew's head, or Loomis's head, or at the negotiation table.

It will get done.

CharityMike 07-09-2012 09:28 PM

I know bro but this crap is wearing me down..I cant take much more negative news...somebody get me a drink

There is millions of reasons to hold on to the signing bonus till the last moment

I was curious... so I looked at his posts lately
Dammit this is going to be the longest week of the offseason.
The Dude

Help me understand this
The Dude

I still have a feeling Drew won't get a long time contract
The Dude

Any news on the Brees hearing?
The Dude

Do you think the Saints may have been weighing the option of parting ways with Brees?
The Dude

So does Drew sign a contract or sign the tag?
The Dude

Anyone think Drew may want out?
The Dude

Dude my friend, Asylum is right. Relax and just let it happen. No amount of worry posts are gonna change what happens.

It will get done.

It will get Tom Beson said so.

Sometimes he doubles up...

Srgt. Hulka 07-10-2012 07:12 AM

Ya'll leave Dude alone. He's just nervous about his Saints.

Cruize 07-10-2012 08:15 AM

Tag. He's already been offered a contract to make him the highest paid player in the NFL. He turned it down. Of course, there was really no reason for him to not try and get more.

TheOak 07-10-2012 10:20 AM

Judging contract "value to a player" based on total dollar amount is a very simplistic way to look at it...

He could be offered $500M and if he had a career ending injury in the first game this season, he gets one games worth....

This stagnation in the negotiations is about guaranteed money... Guaranteed money is not something Drew thought up on his own, he is not pioneering this way to write a contract... He is not trying to screw someone over..

Some-other dumb-ass team didnt want to lose a player so they told him.. "well yea they are offering you a little more than we are, but ours is guaranteed"....

I do not think loading is even a discussion anymore due to the salary cap...

I do not believe in guaranteed money, but it is what someone else made it when they set that precedent.

Papa Voodoo 07-10-2012 12:06 PM

I've had an eerie feeling ever since Sean made the statement that he would be "more than stunned" if Drew was not signed. My head tells me the deal will get done, but my intuition is telling me there is no chance of it getting done. Maybe next year?

voodooido 07-10-2012 04:00 PM

He will sign long term. The Saints can not afford him at the tag price. So lets see, the Saints can pay him 20.5 mil or almost 24 mil. And even more then 24 mil next year. Give the man 20.5 over 5 years already. Crap what choice do they have?

I think his it's around $16-17 million this season and 24 next year.
