I was reading this as a guest and had to log in to say - Darren Howard ? your leader has to be tuff not someone who cries over his wrist. He could have played more last year.

i totally disagree that brooks is a good leader...deuce isn\'t a leader either...while both are very talented, neither is a leader. w/o deuce the saints would be horrible, and i think that he does have a bit of an upperhand with his teammates b/c he\'s consistent with his performance on the field... aaron has yet to show the competitive fire that is recognizable in a leader... this doesn\'t necessarily mean that he has to get in everyones face and yell and scream at every opportunity, but it does mean to encourage his team to be prepared to do their best... brooks can\'t do that b/c he\'s not prepared himself, evident by the fact that he\'s not all that proficient in knowing the playbook, a major no-no for a QB

Who suggested that AB was a leader? It is possible that he is in the sense of making big plays (which can fire up a team), but in most other ways, the consensus is that he is not a leader. Duece is also lacking some of those other essential features to be a great leader (in every sense).

But I wouldn\'t press Howard on the leadership issue or the injury thing... especially when he\'s all lubed up like that.

I\'m not hatin\' Deuce for being who he is. I don\'t mind him being the quiet, lead-by-example leader that he is. I just wish his example wasn\'t to fade at the end of every friggin\' season!

Come and get me, Deuce-lovers! :P

Deuce faded two seasons ago due to injury. If we want to talk about that and consider it a pattern (AKA \"Deuce fades at the end of every season\"), we should also do two other things:

1. Revisit Aaron\'s numbers at the end of the \'02 season. A couple of games with a QB rating under 20. Terrible play all around - what? He was injured? Not if you ask Jim Haslett - oh? Jim lied? He was injured? So was deuce and he still churned out a few 100+ yard performances with a high ankle sprain. What did AB do after he got hurt? The only game they won in that stretch, if I remember correctly, was the NYG game where Delhomme played the second half.

2. Wasn\'t T Smith hurt for part or all of both of Deuce\'s slides? Hhmm - maybe that guy was moderately valuable huh?

I\'m willing to bet that Smith\'s injury (and Duece\'s) were a large factor in the fade last year (thus, to call the \"fades\" a trend, we\'d need to show that they had similar causes).

WhoDat, you forgot another thing we\'d have to revisit: Haz\'s inability to win in December (surely that is entirely Haz\'s fault and could have nothing to do with the players - including Deuce; thus, Duece cannot be to blame for the \"fade\").

How about what one ought to do if one wants to claim that Duece fades down the stretch: (1) compare games where Duece did well w/o T-rex to ones near the end of the season where he didn\'t, (2) determine if Duece tends to be injured by the end of the season (that constitutes some sort of \"fade\"), and (3) compare games where Deuce was injured earlier in the season to ones toward the end of the season. If someone were to do this, then I would believe claims about the \"trend\" that Duece fades at the end of the season.
