Carl Nicks vs. Ben Grubbs

The Top Dogs

At the other end of the table, a hearty congratulations to the New York Jets’ model of consistency at right guard, Brandon Moore. While left guards Faneca and Matt Slauson finished among the last seven on the lst, Moore, by virtue of giving up just two sacks, two hits, and 34 hurries in three seasons, finished at the top of the pile. Brian Waters may not be the mauling guard he once was, but he remains near flawless in pass protection, finishing second overall. Another veteran, new Ravens guard Bobbie Williams, also finished in the Top 5 (fourth), with Josh Sitton sandwiched between the two. The last member of the top group was Steve Hutchinson, while new Bucs guard Carl Nicks finished in sixth. See, it’s not all bad news Bucs fans.

Three Years of Pass Blocking Efficiency: Guards | ProFootballFocus.com

Roethlisberger may be known for extending plays (and racking up high sack totals), but Baltimore’s Joe Flacco was actually the king of holding the ball too long in 2010. In logging the time of each and every sack in the NFL in 2010, Flacco’s 25 sacks of 3.1 seconds or more were five more than anyone else in the league.

Turns out, Joe Flacco holds the ball too long | Baltimore Sports Report

Grubbs above Evans huh? I wouldn't have thought that.

QBREES9 07-14-2012 09:04 AM

I wouldn't have either until I saw the rankings were focusing on pass protection ... maybe Evans gets him in the run-blocking dept.

Whats confusing is that during the Grubbs/Nicks conversations, I thought Grubbs excelled at run blocking more so than pass protection.

Maybe I'm remembering it backwards.

No, thinking back, I think you got it right & Grubbs was described as more of a run blocker ... more good news for you guys now that he's getting ranked up there as a pass blocker ... I like that PFF.

It's not you guys anymore.....it's us now SloMotion!
Grubbs is a run blocker first. That's where his value lies. Drew gets rid of the ball so quickly that my mother could play guard. She's certainly big enough.:)

Question. If Drew deal was done early. Could the Saints have kept Nicks ? Just a question.

I think if drews deal was done early enough, the least we could have done was franchise him, maybe even given loomis enough time for a deal

But hey, we now have a guy that's supposedly just as good, not a mauler but one of the better guards for less money

Possibly, but I doubt we would have been able to keep Colston as well.

I could be wrong on that.

I think there was a bunch of stuff going on behind the scenes with many other players and the business of the franchise to enable the Brees deal to get done. At some point they had to ask, "Who is expendable?" That question is always coupled with the question, "Who is available?" This was a calculated decision by some folk I'd rate in the genius category including Loomis and Kromer the OL coach. I don't think they wanted to keep Nicks.

I believe nicks was sore at payton or line coachs from being put on ssecond string i think he wanted out. He was a great draft pick up by payton

I don't know about any disputes but he was definitely a great draft choice. I think he was just chasing the cash.
