Question for the Forum

If Carmichael and the Saints win the Super Bowl, is there a chance that the Saints would name Carmichael as HC and fire/release Payton?

I think it would take at least a Super Bowl appearance by the Saints for my hypothetical scenario to have any chance of happening.

Fire who? I say that he'd be hired somewhere as a head coach is more likely.

Lmfao. Carmichael auditioning for a hc job this year but not for us.

The Dude 07-16-2012 06:43 PM

Bet you wont ask that question on that other forum.

He got a few looks last year from teams needing a new head coach, not that far fetched...

Agreed. If we finish with 10 wins or better, Pete is a gone pecan.

Halo 07-16-2012 07:10 PM

Just remember, Carmichael was at the helm during our LOSS to the Rams last season.

It wasn't until Sean Payton returned to full, on-field action when we went on a win-streak to finish the season strong.

This year there will be NO Sean Payton.

He was also calling the shots when we hung 65 on the colts...

The loss vs St Loius was a team let down.

Are you sure? I thought that I read somewhere that Payton said it was the worst game he'd ever called.

Correction: Saints beat Colts 62-7

I'm not concerned with Pete Carmichael taking Sean Paytons Job as HC. What worries me is what Marshall Faulk said a few months back. Without Sean you possibly might see some people being exposed. Some folks may not be as good as you thought. He never mentioned any names but I'm almost sure he was referring to Pete Carmichael

I don't see that happening; if Pete looks bad Drew looks bad... Drew has 40,000,000 reasons why he won't look bad!

vpheughan 07-16-2012 08:30 PM

Payton was the coach for the "trap" game.

73Saint 07-16-2012 08:55 PM

I think I would be as worried about losing Vitt. He seems to have more "presence" than Carmichael. Either way, I don't envision a scenario that leaves us without SP next year. (unless somehow Goodell finds a way to keep him from returning).

Utah_Saint 07-16-2012 09:04 PM

I've read that Carmichael is a brilliant offensive mind but he doesn't have the personality to be a head coach. I don't know if that's true or not but he's been the offensive coordinator for the Saints since 2006 and yet he's NOT the interim coach, there must be a reason.

mutineer10 07-16-2012 09:14 PM

Or MAYBE, Carmichael and Goodell are working TOGETHER to make Carmichael the coach, take over the Saints, and MOVE THEM TO LOS ANGELES!!!

didnt the cowboys win a super bowl after JJ and then...

we should not and i do not expect us to fire sp no matter the result of this season

Rugby Saint II 07-17-2012 03:38 PM

Either Vitt or Carmichael will be gone. Possibly both.

The Dude 07-17-2012 04:46 PM

I would also expect that if we do well either Vitt or Carmichal or both will be HC somewhere next year. If we win the SB you can guarantee it.

Beastmode 07-17-2012 04:48 PM

I'm not giving any of the coaches more credit than they deserve. SP built that team from the ground up. Lose him and he's going to take people with him along for the ride. Vitt and Carmichael are outstanding at what they do but building is something I doubt they are fully cut out for IMO. Maybe I'm wrong but there just are not a lot of coaches that have a sharp eye for all the little details. It's those smaller details that have burned many a coaches.
