this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; This would fill a gap. This guy was a little hobbled with hamstrings but he played well for GB last season. He could definitely help the Saints. What are your thoughts. [Edited on 1/6/2004 by SAINTS2005] [Edited on 1/6/2004 by ...

Welcome to B&G SAINTS2005.

I don\'t know what to think about McKenzie. He seems to be an ugrade, but I\'m not sure of that either.

I think when Mike McKenzie becomes a high profile CB, either a team is desperate for a CB or it just aren\'t many good CBs in the league.

In any event, I would like to pick him up because I don\'t think it\'s much to lose.

Well my thoughts on McKenzie are these....First no matter what CB we get he will never be able to live up to the expectations that we as fans are gonna put on him. As soon as he gets beat two are three times we are gonna assume that he was over rated. Secondly any one coming in is still gonna have to learn the saints system, and depending on the players learning curve this may take half to a full season for them to possibly feel comfortable. So the best we can hope for is that we get a corner that can make an impact this year but we must keep in mind that it may take some time for them to be the solid cover corner that we need.

I say we get him only if he cuts his hair. NO MORE DREADS we\'ve been there and did that.

Nothing to lose?

He\'s going to be asking for lots of $$. Is he worth it? If the coaches feel our CB\'s are not that deep, and this is \'the season\' we make that \'push\', sure. I am not sure he is worth what he may ask for. I am not sure what he is asking for, but like the above post mentions, it takes time to get accustomed to a new team, strategy, teammates....

I\'d go with Samari Rolle if his asking price is less. McKinzie seems to have a big ego (too big for his playing). He is a very good CB, but not an elite. In my eyes at least.

Welcome to the board... He isn\'t a Free Agent first of all... If we get him he would have to be cut -unlikely, or get him in a trade the Packers want a 1st rounder and Saints only considering giving up a 2nd rounder.

Dan Pompei updates the status of McKenzie

\"The teams most interested in trading for Packers CB Mike McKenzie are the Saints, Browns, Eagles and Steelers. The Packers\' chances of trading the disgruntled player aren\'t very good if they continue to demand a first-round choice and more for McKenzie. If the Packers lower their asking price to a second-round pick, a deal figures to get done quickly. . . . \"

In Sundays June 6th Times Picayune, Brian Allee-Walsh writes...

As of Saturday night, estranged left cornerback Mike McKenzie remained the property of the Green Bay Packers. McKenzie, who has three years remaining on his contract, wants a new, richer deal or he has threatened to sit out the season. He is not participating in the Packers\' offseason program and minicamps and stands to forfeit a $200,000 workout bonus.

Agent Drew Rosenhaus has been given permission to shop his disgruntled client but so far there are no takers. Rosenhaus has approached the Saints and other teams about McKenzie, but the Packers\' asking price is relatively steep. Green Bay wants first- and fifth-round draft picks. McKenzie is a good player, but not that good. He is scheduled to make a base salary of $2.75 million in 2004 and count $4.087 million against the Packers\' salary cap.

Very good point Boccal
SAINTS2005----welcome
anyone who watched half of the Saints games know that McKenzie would be a GREAT improvement over any CB one our roster or that has been on our roster in a long time.
