Does he stay?

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; This isn't an argument regarding talent as his balls out style of running is a joy to watch, but with Chris Ivory again sitting out with a hammy already I just want to ask this. If Chris doesn't stay healthy ...

Alot to be said for dependability, I say yes if the injuries continue.

To answer your question: no, he won't get cut next offseason, because he'll be a RFA, so if the Saints no longer need his services - they just won't try to re-sign him.

Well, he is a blast to watch. I would say more than any of the other backs we have. I'm not saying he is our best, just the best to watch.
Now Finsaint is right, he wont be back then next year. Rb are a dime a dozen at the 3rd or 4th spot on a roster.

Agreed, he is certainly entertaining to watch, but unfortunately that brutal running style seems to make him susceptible to injuries.

I don't think that his running style has anything to do with his injuries. This is a training/stretching preparation issue.

limit his touches until the playoffs where he could be a nice boost...a wildcard so to speak...

I love Ivory and I get what you are trying to say, but he didn't exactly light it up against the 49ers when PT went down. Playoff defenses are tougher. If anything, I think Ivory does his best as a wildcard or unexpected feature back against weak or average running defenses, during the season, like when he ran completely wild over Tampa Bay that time in 2010. Pierre is more like the one who steps up and owns the playoffs.

Until Ingram can prove he can stay healthy as well, all 4 should stay, unless some UDFA makes a PT type splash in training camp.

I think the new NFL is going running back by committee. We have 4 really good ones and they all have minor flaws.

Now if Ivory misses the majority of camp, I can see him being a final cut since its unlikely any team will sign him.

Ivory is just another piece of the puzzle, and not one of the corner pieces.
He fits somewhere in the middle and can be replaced by an ever expanding pool of available pieces.
When we need his services, he needs to be ready, especially from the 4 spot.
I like his power and strength down hill. Those gifts are useless on an exercise bike.
