If Vilma plays

The more I hear about the trial the more it seems that Vilma will play this season until the court of appeals hears the case (like the starcaps situation). If Vilma plays what do you think the starting LB corp will look like?

I would like to see:
WLB- Vilma
MLB- Lofton
SLB- Hawthorne

Lofton is the perfect fit at MLB so Vilma gets bumped to WLB and given his speed he would do well there. If Vilma takes the MLB spot Lofton could slide to SLB and Hawthorne to WLB. Anyway you cut it that looks like a great LB crew, not good but GREAT.

Thoughts? I Know some of you have said that he should be cut if he is allowed to play this season because of the injury, but Vilma has had some time to heal now.

Even if he wins this round, he's not going to play. He's still rehabbing his knees. It's going to be Lofton, Hawthorne, and yes! Shanwow.

Again, Starcaps much different. That was a state violation on the NFL. Vilma made a valiant charge up the hill but it could all roll back rather quickly. Even the judge said there may be nothing that can be done even though she has concerns.

I sure wish Vilma the best... Gotta credit the guy for not taking this on the chin and fighting for his right. But not only that his character! Love Vilma!

All the best to Johnny V.

He won't play. These proceeding will be well into next year before a ruling would come down in his favor.

blackangold 07-28-2012 12:45 AM

That's the point. Next week the Judge will issue her decision after which (if Vilma wins) it will move to the appeals process. Remember Starcaps, this would be the same situation. Vilma would be reinstated until the appeal is heard which could take as long as a year. This is likely to happen.

"Judge Ginger Berrigan said that she had doubts whether NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell actually had jurisdiction to discipline the four current and former Saints players suspended in connection with the league's investigation into a pay-for-performance/bounty program."

Vilma is not ready to play!

If lightning struck Goodell tomorrow causing everything to go away and allow Sean Payton to coach this season...Vilma is still not physically healthy enough to play.

Of course that is all hypo... But I wouldn't mind lightning striking Goodell though.. No, really striking Goodell.

I would love to see a healthy Vilma as one of the LB trio whatever position he would take over, but it's still very much up in the air whether or not he will be allowed to play this season.

As far as his health situation is concerned, none of us really knows, but in one of the recent pressers Vitt claimed that Vilma had been rehabbing really well and that he suggested that if Vilma was allowed to join the training camp, he'd be able to fully participate. He also said that Vilma was his own worst enemy when it comes to coming back from an injury in that he wants to take the field before he is back to 100%, and Vitt seemed to think that was the reason why he had picked up re-injuries in the past, so they'd have to monitor him closely before giving him the "OK" to suit up.

Anyway you slice it, the Saints D would be better with Vilma than without him - even if he couldn't take the field with the rest of the guys.

If we keep Vilma he would take the run snaps and let Cassilas pass cover. At least that's the way it breaks down in my head.
