The latest word I got was that the Saints will EAT A MEAL with Goddell in Canton this weekend.

Anybody think it would be a good idea for someone to slip Goddell a copy of this article?

... I can think of slipping something to Goodell and it wouldn't be in the way of reading material, eh?

They should televise that, it would have a larger audience than the Hall of Fame game.

You're right, I bet it would have as high ratings as a MMA/WWE event. I know I would tune in.

Just a little constructive criticism... and something I would like you to explore.

In regards to the Military/NFL

I am prior service also, and policy and procedure are in place for a reason. I cant condone a "I did it because they did it mentality", which is basically what she did. I wouldn't accept this from my own children either.

Where I have issue with the persecution of any one person that administers bad policy is that nothing is being addressed that corrects the issue. The issue with the NFL is not Roger Goodell, it is bad policy. The NFLPA never took a wholesale look at the CBA, they only focused on the monetary aspect, there was never a risk assessment preformed on the CBA. I say that with the frame that, if there was, someone should have identified the potential issue with the Commissioner being both judge and appellate.

In regards to the Military and the appeals process, Title 10a Rule 18 governs the appeals process for the UCMJ, there are multiple levels of appeals none of which are the judge that heard the original trial.

One item that should be mentioned is that when a contract is signed, its valid and in some cases the party that signs does in fact sign away some rights. The NFLPA signed away its rights to go out side of the Dispute Resolution system. When you become a soldier in the military you do the same... However you also agree to be bound by a different set of laws in some situations. Take adultery for instance, no court would find guilty and sentence any civilian for the act of adultery, if your a soldier.. that is a different case.

In regards to Goodell -NFL/DeMaurice Smith
I have a post on here outlining this conspiracy theory, I say theory because anything unproven with empirical data is only theory, and in my mind I see enough evidence to definitely be conspiracy if not collusion.

I will let you do your own research on this one statement mostly because I am interested in your perception. "The NFL and the NFLPA in 2011 agreed to arguably the worst agreement between a Corporation and a Union in history which set the scales drastically in favor of one person in regards to dictatorial power.. The Chair of said union receives a $1 million dollar bonus for inking the deal."

X626Black: Good post.

The military grievance procedures are outlined in each branch of service. In the Navy, its governing doctrine is the Operational Navy Instruction (OPNAVINST) 5354.1 series.

The UCMJ comes into play with Article 15 (non-judicial punishment: NJP). If the charge is serious enough, it goes to the military judicial process: Courts Martial.

LT Coughlin did not fully exhaust her appeal options at the lowest level (i.e.: as outlined in the OPNAVINST 5354.1) under Military Rights and Responsibilities grievance procedures. Even so, she was entitled to fair treatment because her rights were blatantly violated.

Similarly, Jonathan Vilma has not been afforded fair and equitable treatment in this case. His character and reputation have been dragged through the sewer of public opinion, and I doubt that he'll ever play in the league again.

I have been wrong before, but I believe this will be settled in a civil court, with Vilma settling for 7 or 8-figures in a defamation case that will be for the ages. In exchange for this, the NFL will probably make his NEVER playing another down in the league ...getting their end of the bargain.

Just my humble opinion.

No matter what, Goddell has lost the respect of the players, and will probably NOT get an extension in his tenure as NFL Commish.

I've been wrong before, and if I am, ...oh, well.

We'll see, won't we?

By the time he is up for an extension, the damage will have been done and it will be flag football.
