5 ?s: 2004 New Orleans Saints

The Saints finished at an even .500 last season -- 8-8 overall, 3-3 in their division. Where will the scales tip in 2004? Can Jim Haslett and the boys bring a few more wins to the coveted W column? Will first-round Will Smith have anything to do with it? Answer the five questions below.

The 2004 ESPN.com NFL Offseason Overview continues through July 8, looking at all 32 NFL teams.

1) The Saints need a cornerback and the Packers Mike McKenzie is available, although the Pack are asking for a first round pick and the Saints have reportedly only offered a third round pick. Should the Saints give in?

Yes, he's worth the first round pick.
Yes, but only offer second round pick.
Yes, but hold firm on third round pick.
McKenzie isn't worth it.

2) Defensive line coach John Pease said, ''everything (was) flying by him'' about first round draft pick Will Smith in the opening session of minicamp. Coach Haslett said ''he's not in the football condition he should be in''. Smith says he just had a bout of asthma. How will Smith fare in his rookie season?

He'll adjust and have a great year
He'll adjust but have little impact
He'll struggle most of season
He'll be a non-factor

3) New Orleans has struggled during the last three Decembers and fallen out of playoff contention. How many games will they win in Dec./Jan. this year?

1
2
3
4
5

4) There has been talk about possibly renovating the Superdome. Good idea?

Yes, it needs it.
No, it still won't be up to par with rest of league.

5) What will eventually happen with the Saints and their future in New Orleans?

Continue to play in Superdome
Get a new stadium in New Orleans
Move to Mississippi
Move to Los Angeles

Gator! You\'re alive!

1) 2nd rounder at most; I still hope they hold firm with the 3rd rounder.
2) He\'ll adjust, but in the rotation he\'ll be limited. HOWEVER, he\'ll pust Grant to have a great season!
3) Indeterminable. The reasons for the 2 december collapses have still not been determined to my satisfaction (I can\'t believe that anyone believes that the COACH is the main cause of a december collapse - that simply sound perposterous to me ;); he may be a factor - though I\'m skeptical - but he is certainly not enough of a factor to make a prediction based on that ).
4) Yes, it needs it.
5) Play in the Superdome (though nicely rennovated).

1) Yes but only offer a 2nd round pick. If this doesn\'t happen before pre-season starts drop the offer. That\'s too short of a time to effectively learn our system.
2) He\'ll adjust but have little impact. I see him utilized most in 3rd and long alternate pass rush groups and getting little actually full time play.
3) 3
4) Only been there once. Renovate it.
5) Continue to play in the Superdome.

I get so pissed standing that dam line.
No pun intended, right? :P

1. He\'s worth a second round pick because we have two of them. I\'d even throw in Smith or Whitehead.

2. He will have success as a situational rusher.

3. This team is going to have to prove to me that they can win in December. Maybe two.

4. Renovate. Give Gator his own private stall.

5. I like the Dome, but I think the state will have to eventually build a new stadium in order to keep the team. I just hope it\'s downtown and not in the burbs.
