The Saints QB Coach is........... MIKE SHEPPARD

Regarded as one of the NFL’s finest teachers of quarterbacks, Mike Sheppard was hired on Feb. 8, 2002, to mold and develop the talents of the Saints’ passers. Before coming to New Orleans, Sheppard served as the offensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills in 2001. Under his guidance, the Bills ranked 13th in the NFL in total offense.

Sheppard spent the 1999 and 2000 seasons as the quarterbacks coach with the Seattle Seahawks under head coach Mike Holmgren. Prior to arriving in Seattle, Sheppard served two seasons (1997-98) as the offensive coordinator for the San Diego Chargers under head coach Kevin Gilbride.

Sheppard spent the 1996 season as wide receivers coach with the Baltimore Ravens and was given the play-calling duties under Ted Marchibroda for an offense that finished third overall in the NFL. Sheppard first entered the NFL with the Cleveland Browns in 1993 under Bill Belichick as the tight ends coach before coaching the wide receivers in 1994 and 1995.

Prior to joining the NFL, Sheppard served one year as the offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach at the University of California in 1992. Before starting at Cal, he spent eight years as a college head coach at New Mexico (1987-91) and Long Beach State (1984-86). Sheppard has also spent time coaching at Kansas, Idaho State, BYU, Cal Lutheran and U.S. International.

A native of Tulsa, Okla., Sheppard earned his bachelor’s degree from California Lutheran University in 1973, as well as a teaching credential in 1975. He received his master’s degree in 1982 from BYU. Mike and his wife have four children: Chrissi, Brian, Shelby and Macall.

That bio might explain a few things .

Buffalo - So his prodigy may have been the second string quarterback now in Tampa .

Seattle - Have they had a quarterback since Zorn ??

San Diego - Ooops you do not think he was the one that suggested Ryan Leaf , do you ???

Saints need a quarterbacks coach from Michigan , the always seem to have a pretty good quarterback there .

Yes GatorMan I\'ve noticed this as well. He does have a habit of backing into the rush. Joe Theisman does a great job in calling a televised game and he pointed it out on the 2 point play. On one of SRice\'s sacks and nothing against him he\'s tops in the game, but Turly did his job but Brooks backed into the rush. Also at times he should be able to take off run/slide for the 1st down or if a recievers are covered and the play breaks down . It looks as if he is not trusting his instincts and by that he is trying to become what the staff wants him to be a pure pocket passer. But he is pressing a little to hard. Good quartback coaching is really needed here. Due to the lack of pocket awareness, produces the sacks/2pt plays/interceptions etc. It looks as if Brooks will be day to day and his +A game is needed for the remainder of the season.
