New Orleans Saints WR Adrian Arrington has hurt knee; not clear if surgery needed

The team said Arrington has a meniscus injury of uncertain severity and he did not dress as, "a precautionary measure." Interim coach Joe Vitt said Arrington was consulting renowned surgeon James Andrews, an LSU graduate who operated on Deuce McAllister and Drew Brees, and the club does not yet know if surgery will be necessary. The knee has been bothering Arrington throughout training camp, Vitt said, and was not a sudden development on the eve of the team's trip to Ohio.

The Saints' seventh-round pick out of Michigan in the 2008 draft has struggled to earn playing time in New Orleans. He spent his rookie campaign on injured reserve after suffering a turf toe injury in training camp, and has bounced on and off the active roster since then. He got a big chance in the Saints' last game - the divisional playoff loss at San Francisco last January - but only managed to haul in two passes for 21 yards although quarterback Drew Brees targeted him multiple times.

This year, however, seemed his big chance given the departure of Robert Meachem to San Diego via free agency. Arrington has looked good during practices, and was expected to be a featured part of the Saints' preseason offense.

I am the first one to say that I am a AA fan. There is a reason he is still around, but if he can't play this year and play well when called upon.. Then he's got to go.

Not clear if surgery is needed.........we need to decide whether to cut him or not.

Choot 'em!

QBREES9 08-06-2012 09:41 PM

How long has he been with the Saints 3 - 4 years. He must have something they like. He just can't get on the field.

Crusader 08-07-2012 02:26 AM

Just cut him allready. He won't make this team this year either.

dizzle88 08-07-2012 05:26 AM

Our team is fixated with Arrington and has been for the last 4 years, and i can't understand why

Yeah he could be a good player, BUT HES NEVER, EVER EVER EVER HEALTHY!

just cut him already

They find guys that they are enamored with and keep sticking with them, even to much to my liking Romeus, Arrington are prime candidates....

Mardigras9 08-07-2012 11:07 AM

He falls into the Ivory category for me. If he can't stay healthy, unfortunately, time to go.

arsaint 08-07-2012 11:10 AM

Sorry for the guy, but I think it is time to cut bait.

He could be the next Jerry Rice, but that will never happen if he can't play and he sure can't seem to stay healthy...

AA must have tunnel vision, there's a reason he gets bummed up often. was'nt there a time we called him gumby. its like he can catch the rock but forgets his legs behind him in a tangle. this has to be it for him. love him always liked the guy, but i believe its cut city for him, sorry.

darstep 08-08-2012 09:56 AM

A big part of what AA had to do this year was be available.
He's played what? 5 games in 4 years? How much does he make?
I like AA and his skill set, but he's useless if he can't be there when we need him.

SapperSaint 08-08-2012 10:36 AM

Drop this guy. This is a waste of money. Almost 5 years with this team and he has given this team nothing in return.

Time to cut bait with this guy.

Beastmode 08-08-2012 10:45 AM

With the offense being complicated, I see why they kept him around as a backup even with his bothersome injuries. Thing is, when he was called in for that specific duty it didn't work so well.

I wish him the best but I think it's over and that's probbly a good thing for him. There are several teams that are seriuosly hurting at WR. If he heals up I could see him latching on somewhere and having an impact.

Surgery is usually the quick fix... Rehab would mean more time and living with the possibility of a recurring injury.

Trade Arrington and Shanle for a new Strength and conditioning coach.
