CHRIS MORTENSEN A LIAR; NFL DENIES ANY SETTLEMENT OFFERS; VILMA'S MEMO UNRELATED

I will say this OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN, ESPN.com's Chris Mortensen is a total and complete LIAR.

He lied and reported the NFL tried to make a settlement with Vilma, the NFL denies it, and I believe them.

I also think Vilma's actions today by filing a memo with the court of Goodell's comments were totally unrelated - he was going to do that anyways.

Quote:

The NFL calls a report it has offered a settlement and reduced suspension to Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma ''completely inaccurate.''

Citing anonymous sources, ESPN.com reported the league offered Vilma an eight-game suspension if he would drop his defamation lawsuit against NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

''No such settlement offer has been made,'' NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said Monday. ''We will continue to respect the court proceedings on this matter and have no further comment at this time.''

Chris Mortensen has proven himself a LIAR, LIAR, LIAR time and time again!

Well... evidently... he is not the only one! ... as recently reported in the news!

Werder defends report of NFL offer to Vilma | ProFootballTalk

RockyMountainSaint 08-06-2012 07:15 PM

I was just telling my son that an e-mail, phone convo or some evidence that this is true will be released by the end of this week.

The NFL will be found to be liars once again.

Seer1 08-06-2012 07:18 PM

Did Mortensen play before helmets were required? At least then HE would have an excuse.

Tobias-Reiper 08-06-2012 08:05 PM

... to be fair, this is the NFL saying something is so or is not so. Just like "pay-for-performance" is not the same as "pay-to-injure", "completely inaccurate" does not mean "not true" or "lie". Just more semantics.

Halo 08-06-2012 08:16 PM

Mortensen = LIAR
Goodell = LIAR
Deion Sanders = LIAR

I'm hearing on the local radio that it's true to an extent. From what I understand, the two parties have been in talks, but someone apparently leaked the info before anything had been agreed upon. Take it for what it's worth.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, it's turned into a freaking soap opera, and these idiot reporters are chomping at the bit for a story to feed the drama. TV ratings, $$, blah blah blah. Welcome to the new NFL.

Beastmode 08-06-2012 09:05 PM

The NFL has a contigency plan. The plan is if it blows up in their face s!@t can Roger. There is no turning back because turning back means you lose. The NFL does not lose.

saintfan 08-06-2012 09:30 PM

I'd be satisfied with the whole thing if Roger lost his gig. I mean that. I love Vilma to death, but if I had to chose, say, Sean stays suspended or Roger gets fired I'd chose watching Roger burn. I loathe that mother ****er.

QBREES9 08-06-2012 09:32 PM

Goodell should lose his job.

For the longest time I told myself no way, no way he could be this stupid, he has something. Well now I know, he is that stupid and he has nothing.

I wonder how much money this whole thing has cost the NFL, I bet it's hundreds of millions. For what? The only thing it proved is that Roger has way too much power and abuses it. If I'm an owner I would want him gone.

The Dude 08-06-2012 10:14 PM

Somebody needs to start holding these so called journalists accountable for reporting false news. If Fox news or CNN reporters reported in the same manner as these sports reporters they would be fired. I guess its different because it is just entertainment and a dog and pony show that the NFL controls and spins any way it wants for the most part. Journalism is not about taking a hunch and running with it as fact.

I heard on 690 Steve Zavin(sp?) show, they were interviewing the author of a new book, SpyGate the book. Sounds like a great read with ALL sorts of inside things that were once reported on but never mentioned again. When writing the book, he asked some of the original reporters for information and they ALL refused to speak about it.

Point being, the average person has no clue what lengths a company the size of the NFL will go to, to cover up anything they want to. I don't believe anything they say.

The line in now blured between Journlaist and Bloggers and anyone who can put pen to paper. Everybody rushes to be first and apologize later. Who, What, When and Why. The basic facts. Get these steps right and then DO YOUR JOB.

Nobody cares. Why do they, if the destroy a man way of life, he has money he'll be ok.

Thats today MEDIA.

Well we know the Steelers hate Roger. Obviously the Saints hate Roger. I doubt Dallas and Washington are very thrilled with him at the moment. The Raiders have always hated him.

It's pretty simple. He is trying to sway public opinion of how the NFL has marketed and profited from violence and how it has practiced in-house deception (or at least allowed it) to keep key players on the field. He has now extended his own neck too far, and I hope somebody chops it off.

How much of a chance do you think there is of him getting fired?

Danno 08-07-2012 08:14 AM

Its all about PR. Even if the league has enough circumstancial evidence to convince most that a pay-to-injure program was going on, they don't want their Commissioner tied up in a messy legal battle televised for the world to see. Thats NOT the image they want to show the world.

So even if they think they can win this thing, they'd probably rather settle and be done with it.

Now they just have to convince Vilma to call off his dogs. Good luck with that Roger.

Sacrificial lamb if Vilma case goes south in any number of ways. So pretty good depending on ruling or settlement.

SPPMO. Stupid People Piss Me Off

Has the league EVER really produced evidence that would stand up in a real court?

No they haven't and thats one of the main reasons that they want to settle. If the judge from these hearings halts the suspensions of Vilma, that means that she believes that the league did something wrong in this process...which does nothing but give the other judge who would try these cases in court a reason to have the NFL give up ALL of their findings (which they basically don't have), call witnesses and hold them under oath at the risk of perjury. There is no CBA to abide by in court just the law and the evidence. If this goes to court you better believe this will blow up in Rogers face even more than it already has and he will be fired.
