Uh Billy?
Eh? Uh? Huh?

OK, WhoDat, you found McCarthy and West Coast Offense in the same article. And your point? Hell, we all saw that info 2 or 3 years ago. No, I read that when McCarthy came to the Saints.

But, some of us have been telling you that it\'s only the West Coast in name only. I heard McCarthy say it with my own ears.

But, PLEASE, tell me how our offense is so much different? Please, please, please.

I\'m well versed on the west coast offense. Give me ya best shot, WhoDat.

WhoDat --

You bring up a very interesting point about how you think McCarthy has scrapped his West Coast offense because Brooks isn\'t the right \"type\" of QB for the system.

But, I think you just don\'t understand the West Coast Offense or you don\'t understand how the West Coast Offense has evolved.

Furthermore, I don\'t think you understand the reason McCarthy is going to more one-back, 4-wide receiver sets. I think it\'s just another attempt by you to discredit Brooks by saying the reason McCarthy is going more to the spread offense is because Brooks can\'t do the job in the West Coast Offense.

Fact is, WhoDat, Mike Holmgren is doing the EXACT same thing in Seattle as what McCarthy is doing in New Orleans. Which is running a lot more one-back, 4-receiver sets. Am I to believe that Matt Hasselbeck is the reason that Holmgren is scrapping the West Coast Offense he learned with the 49\'ers?

You can make a stand and say Mike McCarthy learned the \"orginal\" West Coast Offense and he\'s changing it because Brooks isn\'t good enough to run it. Or, you can understand that Mike McCarthy\'s orginal offense that he brougt with him to New Orleans is MUCH different than the \"original\" West Coast Offense.

Furthermore, coaches are always tinkering with an offense. They are going to play to the strengths of certain players. And they are going to bring in their type of players and change the offense some more.

That\'s all you\'ve witnessed, WhoDat. I know you think you\'ve seen McCarthy scrap his West Coast Offense because of Broooks. But, it\'s simply not true.

A lot of us noticed a long time ago that McCarthy\'s offense looked nothing like the 49\'ers offense. I hope you soon figure that out....

Here\'s something I think you should read:

Mike Holmgren\'s offense has been called many things.

Innovative. Prolific. Quarterback friendly. Even foolhardy.

\"That was a phrase that fit at the time. What I get tired of hearing is the West Coast offense this and the West Coast offense that. I think that\'s kind of a lazy term, really. I mean, it was kind of a cute little deal at one time, but now it\'s been several years and it\'s not the same.\" -- Mike Holmgren

He began full-scale revisions after becoming the Packers head coach in 1992. He is doing a little more massaging with the Seahawks.

\"People talk about it being short passes, but it\'s (Holgrem\'s offense) much more than that. It has become high-percentage passes and also the opportunity to create big plays down field.\" -- Brent Jones

\"We run a lot more single-back, four-receiver offense than we ever did in San Francisco,\" -- Mike Holmgren

\"It\'s just a way of making things easier for your quarterback, so you have to design it for whoever that happents to be\" -- Mike Shanahan

Whether it\'s Elway, Young, Favre or Jon Kitna.

It is great how Billy was wiping his chin one moment after \"saluting\" WhoDat and the next moment Whodat is treating Billy like Ned Beatty in Deliverance........

Sure Billy, I don\'t understand the west coast. Traditionally the true Bill Walsh 49ers West Coast was categorized by quick short passing routes in lue of or to help compliment a running attack. It used screens, RBs swings, WR screens, belly unders, and a variety of other misdirection and/or short plays to slowly methodically move the ball down the field. Once you got used to the short stuff and crept up they hit you with a deep slant.

McCarthy\'s \"run version\" of the West Coast originally used Ricky and the TEs much more than the receivers. Unfortunately for McCarthy our TEs were bad, but...

More importantly, you just KEEP DOING IT.

So you\'re saying that McCarthy changing the offense here has absolutely nothing to do with Brooks.

Question: How well does Brooks throw a fade? Or any touch pass? What about a timing pattern?

Furthermore, coaches are always tinkering with an offense. They are going to play to the strengths of certain players. And they are going to bring in their type of players and change the offense some more.
So wait a second - McCarthy caters his offense to his players\' strengths and he\'s not running the West Coast. In other words, his players\' strengths don\'t fit the west coast system huh? Who would have guessed. Even that\'s new for me. Contradicting yourself in the same post. Wow, you\'re really taking your game up to a new level.

Read my posts, WhoDat. I CLEARLY said McCarthy did not change our offense from a West Coast offense to a NON-West Coast offense. I said we never run a West Coast offense to begin with. McCarthy said the EXACT same thing. But, what does he know?

Has he made SOME changes? Yes!! But, what offensive coordinator doesn\'t make some changes? Has he scrapped the offense that he orgianally planned to run when he arrived in New Orleans becuase Brooks can\'t run McCarthy\'s offense? Please!!

Why do you even want to go there?

I was going to address the rest of your post but once again I\'m having to spend 90% of my time defending something I never said. And, quite franky, it just doesn\'t make good sense. :P

Speaking of things people never said - can you give me some proof to bad up your claim that McCarthy said that the Saints do not and have never run the west coast? Just wondering b/c his bio on the OFFICIAL TEAM SITE says he does. But, why would I believe Sport Illustrated, the NFL, and the Saints organization when I can believe you? LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, so you think I\'m making things up there do ya, WhoDat. Well, what about Mike Holmgren?

Mike Holmgren\'s offense has been called many things.

Innovative. Prolific. Quarterback friendly. Even foolhardy.

\"That was a phrase that fit at the time. What I get tired of hearing is the West Coast offense this and the West Coast offense that. I think that\'s kind of a lazy term, really. Where did Holmgren coach at? Green Bay was it? Where did McCarthy come to the Saints from? Green Bay was it? Where did Brooks come from? Seems Holmgren and McCarthy thought Brooks was the right guy for their system, WhoDat. Whatever system that might be. Hey, but what do they know?

Whew............
