Seven Saints who raised eyebrows Sunday

Article here.

Ingram's vision was the first thing I noticed about him. It was only 4 carries, but he did not look like that tentative runner we saw last season. Scary.

I hope Danno doesn't see slide #3. :-)

Exactly right

On his first down run I expected him to run right into oncoming defenders, but he made a split second decision which was impressive and his move after the cutback was encouraging

I think he will have a good year

While you can't draw too many conclusions from this game, the one I keep getting from it is how nothing looked bad. I only watched the 1st half and listened to the 2nd, I had to get back on the road, but I feel good about our team.

Again, this is only one game on about a week of practice....

One thing that did concern me was the second string offensive line. There seemed to be no continuity. They were getting pushed around and beat on most plays. Chase had to do a lot of scrambling and after the starters left, no running back could get anything going.

But again, that was on a weeks practice.

Cadet raised my eyebrows. It was difficult to tell him from Ivory, both have dreads, but Ivory has longer dreads. Cadet has a strong running style.

Ingram- Thats what happens when a rookie has a preseason. He looked great!
Cadet- The man looked like he was playing to end world hunger.
Lofton- Sorry Vilma lovers... This guy is a breath of fresh air.
Morestead- I just want to hug him.
Ellis- Finally off the leash
Wilson- Looked very good
Thomas- Looks like he is back to his original injury free form (sorry for hating on ya)

Ivory- What I expected
Sproles- Reminds me of Lord of the Rings when he runs with "the precious".

I watched the game again last night with no distractions and well.. Our starters looked damned good.

I could be just showing the love for my favorite team. But, the Saints looked ready to play an NFL game.

Why? I think he's a great punter.

Yes sir! Lofton looked like Vilma before all the injuries!

Except with more power

Vilma is undersized for the LB position, lofton is the prototypical mike LB

He seemed to be running with a much clearer picture of where he was
and who was around him and finishing falling forward rather than
being driven backwards. Year two maturity, and YES, that is scary.

I thought that Marcel Jones looked pretty good as the 2nd string RT and most of the pressure was coming from the left side, which was - surprise surprise - manned by Charles Brown. The right side of the O-line with Topou and Jones looked alright for the 2nd string, and Tennant wasn't bad either as the 2nd string center.

Still, he's "only" a punter... :-D

LBCutta 08-07-2012 04:39 PM

Its Cadet vs Ivory......the other 3 backs are locks. I think Ivory edges him out

Last year's man crush was Tom Johnson. This year I can see it's Marcel Jones.

Don't get me wrong, Tom is still my sweetheart, but I guess I'm hoping that Jones will work out for the sake of the O-line's continuity going forward.

And speaking of Tom, he was in on that one sack with Martez, and he did look quite mobile with the limited reps he had, so I'm hoping and praying that he stays injury free this preseason and can fight for a starting job at DT.

I'm envisioning the trio of Bunkley, Johnson and Hicks providing a mobile corps of DTs for the Saints in the coming years - I'm still not convinced by Ellis 4.0 - and those guys will be key for Spags front 4 schemes' success.

I hope Roby doesn't make it. I'm rooting for Morgan and, if he's healthy, Arrington.

Cadet could push Ivory off the team.

MARTEZ "Balls Out" Wilson

Why would you hope any particular one wouldn't make it? As long as the best man for the job does, thats all I care about.

I don't want him to do poorly. I want younger players to be better men.

saintsfan1976 08-07-2012 10:26 PM

And Drew Brees. Worth every dollar .......

I love Vilma, but I love winning games more...it would actually be awesome to see him come back as an OLB and get rid of Shanle from the first squad finally.

I know what you mean. We've seen what Roby can do and its not bad, but he's not gonna suddenly get a lot better than what we've already seen.

Morgan has a much higher ceiling and has the potential to develop into something pretty special IMO.

Roby is a decent #5 or #6 WR who plays well on special teams, which is fine.

Morgan has the potential to surpass him on both counts. I just hope he develops to his full potential.

mighty12 08-08-2012 08:36 AM

I don't remember the first team dominating that much in a preseason game. Last year the first team offense struggled in its first drive. This was an all around dominating first drive.

Canfield can get canned in my opinion. He was bad, even for a third string.

Cadet will unseat Ivory at some point because Ivory will get injured. History is history.

We are deeeeeeeeeep at WR. I hate to see any of these guys go.

Wilson is a pro bowl player if he is given a chance.

Just my musings.
