What to watch for in New Orleans Saints vs. New England Patriots game
Here are some things to keep your eye on in the New Orleans Saints game against New England at Gillette Stadium on Thursday evening.
Injured defensive back Jabari Greer (33) yells to wide receiver Derek Moye (84) during practice between the New Orleans Saints and New England Patriots on the practice fields of Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts on Tuesday, August 7, 2012.
With starting cornerbacks Jabari Greer (sports hernia) and Patrick Robinson (shoulder) expected to miss the game, young reserves Johnny Patrick, Corey White and Marquis Johnson should get plenty off playing time against the vaunted New England offense.
The battle for the fourth receiver position should begin to come into focus as the starters begin to exit. Injuries to two of the favorites - Adrian Arrington (knee) and Nick Toon (foot) -- have opened the door for Joe Morgan, Courtney Roby and Andy Tanner, who all should see considerable playing time.
Third-year offensive tackles Charles Brown and rookie tackle Marcel Jones will get their shot at protecting the passer and opening running lanes. Jones has had a good training camp so far, while Brown still is seeking to live up to his second-round draft status.
Given the number of soon-to-be unemployed football players who will be on the field to close out the game, look for fourth-string quarterback Luke McCown, who received only limited playing time in the preseason opener, to get more snaps in his attempt to move up the depth chart.
What I'll be watching for is too see if Martez keeps showing his skills at DE!
I'm also interested to see if Cadet, Tanner & Roby can carry over their momentum into this second preseason game.
And Chase Daniel too.
Hopefully Ivory gets some room ro run through... instead of over.
