If memory serves me well ;

Haslett stated after the Browns game , On an about Brooks question . \" It was time for him to step up and lead the trial period was over , it all stops here . \"

Something like that . It was a post game interview .

Mc Carthy later added :

\"Aaron\'s the starting quarterback,\" offensive coordinator Mike McCarthy said Sunday. \"As far as development, the development\'s over. It\'s time for him to win football games

Have you heard anyone on the Saints team (coaches or players) say AB wasn\'t a leader? Can you quote someone?

The Brass comment was in 2002 .

His leadership was questioned in camp ???? That was 16 weeks ago or so .

So if you ask has anyone questioned Aaron Brooks leadership from the Saints , the answer is yes .

In the last 5 minutes , I do not know .

And I do not know about tomorrow .

Once again you\'ve taken some information, twisted it to fit your OPINION and attempted to make it somehthing it isn\'t. For Haz and McCarthy to say Brooks needs to step up and it\'s time for him to win football games is one thing...especailly the Haz quote after what I\'ll admit was a terrible game by AB, but neither of those quotes, and nothing you\'ve posted in this lengthy thread says ANYthing about AB not being the leader of the Saints. Let me re-post the question in question:

Have you heard anyone on the Saints team (coaches or players) say AB wasn\'t a leader? Can you quote someone?

To answer this question with a yes, you\'ll have to find a quote from someone saying Brooks either is not or can not lead his team. You still haven\'t done that and you won\'t be able to because NO ONE IS SAYING IT ACCEPT YOU. And since you\'re neither a coach nor a player and quote from you won\'t count as anything more than your opinion.

Maybe your Moderator status on this site carries some weight. Maybe that\'ll get you and quick question or two from either Haz or McCarthy. Maybe you could ask them what they think TODAY. I think we both know what they\'d say.

At any rate, if you wanna shut me up, find a quote where someone says AB isn\'t the leader...and I\'m not looking for something in the last 5 minutes...but something from THIS SEASON...From the First game with Tampa up to now. Good luck on your quest. You\'re gonna need it.

Twisted is an accurate statement .

The posts I have made , point to a Lack of Leadership skills . Not to the thought of he has No leadership skills at all .

The lack of leadership skills or the questioning of his leadership abilities , has been the knock on Brooks all along . His original combine report had him listed as athletic but shy and questionable leadership skills . Thats why he dropped like a rock in the draft .

Those questions resurfaced at the slide last year and at camp this year , even Haslett questioned his leadership during the hold out .

The Saints brass feel he can make the jump to an elite NFL QB by showing better leadership and decision making skills. They will encourage him to run when the opportunity presents itself, as only McNair, McNabb, and Culpepper are in his class as a running QB. With Jeff Blake gone to Baltimore, Brooks can be confident in knowing this is his team and he will not get yanked. Jake Delhomme takes over as the back-up despite not having taken a regular season snap in 2 seasons. Coaches like Delhomme\'s fiery style and LB mentality.

This statement was released before training camp .

The statement Mc Carthy makes after the loss to the Browns would certainly point to the thought there has been a certain leniancy on how Brooks performs , whether that is on the field performance or leadership , who knows ?

\"Aaron\'s the starting quarterback,\" offensive coordinator Mike McCarthy said Sunday. \"As far as development, the development\'s over. It\'s time for him to win football games

What development does Mc Carthy refer too in this statement ??

Would the offensive coordinator for the Packers ever released this statement in regards to Favre ??? Until Brooks has proven himself 100% in all his abilities , there will always be doubts , reflected by the fans , coaches and media .

Or in other words, you couldn\'t find a sinlge quote from a single coach or player stating that AB wasn\'t the leader of this team. I understand. I\'ve been lookin for two days and I couldn\'t find one either. You can take a quote and attempt to put a spin on it I suppose. As an example, the EAGLES song \"Hotel California\" means many different things to many different people. Here\'s a few more quotes I\'d like to pass along:

\"Aaron\'s taking more of a leadership role,\" tight end Lamont Hall said, \"not only of the offense, but of the whole team.\"

\"I knew he was going to be a premier player in the this league,\" Favre said last month, before the Packers played the Saints. \"All he needed was the opportunity. ... He\'s a very intelligent guy. His knowledge of the passing game is well beyond where I was at his stage.\"

Offensive Coordinator Mike McCarthy was asked this simple question. Is Aaron Brooks a special player. He answered this simply,
\"When he gets in there, no matter what the score, no matter how much time is left, the people around him believe they are going to win the ballgame. When you inspire that much confidence, the question answers itself.\"

Personally I\'m ready to move on. My work here is done.

Until Brooks has proven himself 100% in all his abilities , there will always be doubts , reflected by the fans , coaches and media .

It has been there since college .

3- Brooks\' leadership, a question in this space all season, remains one. The intentional grounding is one thing, but unlike the Duke game, he did not will his team to victory. He did get a key first down on a scramble, but the bottom line is that they did not put up any points on that drive. In fact, against a matador defense that was giving them nearly everything they wanted, UVA was unable to muster any points in the final 25 minutes of action. As the old lady in those Wendy\'s ads used to sort of say, \"where\'s the leadership?\"

I am not the first to question it and will not be the last .......

It is kind of funny how the story changes with certain coaches .

Offensive Coordinator Mike McCarthy was asked this simple question. Is Aaron Brooks a special player. He answered this simply,
\"When he gets in there, no matter what the score, no matter how much time is left, the people around him believe they are going to win the ballgame. When you inspire that much confidence, the question answers

I will start as I finish :

Jake has had how many wins in his career. Has he had any bad games? What\'s the story? Is Haslett biased against Jake? I am trying to figure out where we get the notion that Jake isn\'t getting a shot. He has been with the team for a while yet the coaches continue to start AB. Maybe they feel AB is best for the job. I could be wrong but it seems to me the coaches would know best.

If we get really bored , we can tug on that Ditka hold over theory . We could even spin that into the biased thought . Turley always blows that theory , but then again Haslett did ride him pretty hard after the Helmet incident . Personally I miss Conrad Dobler , it has been awhile since I have seen a lineman bite someone .

Saintz08 --
I give you heaps of credit for stickin\' to your guns, but like the Gambler says:

\"Know when to walk away, know when to run\"

There simply is not anyone raggin\' on Brooks the way you are. He\'s young, still learning, and working hard. His coaches realize that. His teammates realize that. Why can\'t you realize that? I\'m not sure what else he can do. If my memory serves me correctly (and sometimes it doesn\'t) the Cleveland game is the only game in which AB didn\'t throw a touchdown pass. He\'s among the league leaders stats-wise. The Saints are one game off the best record in the NFL and yet you still aren\'t satisfied.

What if AB were to win the Super Bowl? Would you give all the credit to Deuce and Joe and Donte and none to AB? Would you say he was simply lucky enough to have been along for the ride? Might I suggest that if we DON\'T win the super bowl, at this point the safe bet would be to say our suspect \"D\" would be the more likely culprit. I\'m not saying AB won\'t fire the INT that loses the playoff game for the Saints...anything could happen...but as poorly as our \"D\" has played this year (still haven\'t held anyone to under 20 points) why not focus some of your energy there? Call some of THOSE guys out instead of hanging on to this hatred you\'ve had for AB since day one.

\"Delhomme lacks the big-play ability of Brooks.\" Thats a quote from Jeff Duncan who writes for the New Orleans Times-Picayune. He goes on to say this: \"Jake Delhomme\'s fine play in relief of starting quarterback Aaron Brooks the past two weeks has done more than just solidify the confidence of his teammates and coaching staff. It has increased his potential stock as a free agent. In fact, Delhomme might have played himself out of New Orleans.\"

Now I\'m not sure what you get from that, but what I get from it is that Jake is a solid player with a bright future, but the key for me and what I think is the key for the coaches is that first quote...\"Delhomme lacks the big-play ability of Brooks.\"

Ultimately, AB is the leader of this team until he does something to indicate otherwise or until someone comes along and takes that job from him. I can assure you there\'s very little loyalty in the NFL and that if the coaches thought Jake gave the team a better chance to win he\'d be in there under center. I think you\'d agree.
