I agree, we dont need to cut Shanle. I think he has a lot of good football knowledge that can be passed on to the younger guys. With his age he is no longer able to make an impact on the field and its been this way for years.

No player shold be cut until someone earns his spot.

The only reason Shanle is still a Saint is because we've failed to bring in anyone better.

Until that happens I'm all for keeping him on the roster.

On the other hand, since no one has been able to beat him out it appears our front office and scouting department doesn't know jack squat about NFL linebackers.

He knows our system. If he does get beat out then he will be a servicable backup at the very least. Even if Shanle remains a starter we have beefed up our LB corps enough to where we will still be better than last year.

However if Chamberlain does not beat him for the spot then something is going on behind the scene with Shanle. Chamberlain rates out better than Shanle in every aspect of the game (if you compare last years PFF scouting reports). Chamberlain started for Spags and knows the system better than anyone on the team right now.

If you remember correctly Shanle got beat out for his starting position in 2010 during the Preseason, however Casialls injured himself in the last game.
