The Saints need pure LBs. Merriman is not that good at pure LB. He made his claim to fame in SD rushing the passer off a 3-4. Not a really good fit here.

Im not sure i see the point in this trade.
Why waste a draft pick on a injury prone vet.Surely there would be free agents out there that could do the same job.

Been awhile since I have heard anything regarding Rudd. This is clearly a need and I would feel he came really cheap. Overall a space filler.

This is a solid pickup. And maybe Rudd can teach our boys how to tackle.

Remember this guy as a high functioning linebacker with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He journeyed off to Tennessee then to Seattle, now to NOLA. For several years he led the Bucs in tackles.

Totally agree, let's hope he brings a solid TACKLING ethic.

Re: Saints acquire LB Barrett Rudd from Seahawks for an Undisclosed Pick

We have learned that some players that do terrible at one team can actually flourish at another. Its all about fit.

If Loomis grabbed him it is either because he is better than his play has shown, or he is the best available. He is still better than Shanle.

Our front office has been pretty damn good at finding diamonds in the rough.....

Regardless of how you feel about Rudd, he probably will not see much of the field after week 2.

I look at Rudd as more of a replacement for Humber

Hawthorn and Lofton are projected to be back around week 1.

Last night on WWLTV and Fox8Live Humber was projected to play in remaining preseason games. Apparently the Saints signed him knowing he had a 3 game suspension coming.

Again, the Humber suspension was not something new. It became apparent when Lofton and Hawthorne were reported as injured from the Jags game.

He was a beast with the Huskers. Unfortunately the injuries and age have diminished his ability. But not a bad move, he's got a world of starting experience if he can stay healthy.
