Jon Gruden

With all this bounty crap, I wonder why the Saints havent lobbied to get Jon Gruden as interim HC instead of Vitt and Kromer or whoever takes over for Vitt for 6 games?

Defensive minded coach plus he's got a good gig.

I'd bet his stomach lining is as healthy as it's ever been right now.

Jon Gruden is a lot of things, but surely NOT a defensive minded coach.

Thats right, that defense was put together by Dungee. I had a serious brain fart there. Thats one reason why him and Peyton get along so well.

Re: Jon Gruden

I don't remember many comments from Gruden about everything that has happened with the Saints over the last 6 months.

You know Payton and Gruden have spoken...

I wouldn't be suprised to see Gruden or Parcells as the interim head coach. Just to put someone their to focus the team during the suspensions if they hold up after the court battle. I really think adding the head coach duties to current coaches could be a problem and cause a distraction.

Vitt has enough on his plate with the linebackers - especially with the injuries that have started at that position.

Said it earlier - no reason to limit someone outside the organization to the "no contact" rules included in Payton's suspension. I think the decision has been made...but why even put it out.

Let everyone learn who it is on opening day...

If Parcells or Gruden were interested in taking the interim job they would be there now, getting to know the players and system.
Thats my thoughts anyway.

Could happen, but I would think they would need to have some time with us to get to know the team and how players are progressing and get an inside view on who excels at what in order to make personnel changes during games. I kinda do wish Gruden or Parcells would come in for the reasons you listed above but at this point I don't see it happening. You know Payton has been talking with those guys though. What about Jerry Glanville?

I'd love to have Gruden coaching for the Saints at some point but not right now. I think the interim interim HC should be Kromer or Charmichael.

I wonder if we would have gotten an extension of training camp if he or Parcells had been named our interim head coach at the outset.

Re: Jon Gruden

Gruden still has a piece of Payton's anatomy lodged in the back of his throat. He won't be able to call the toss, much less a play.

The Saints will stay in house, of that I'm sure. Who it will be? Not so sure, but my guess is Kromer.

No reason to name Bill... er... someone now who can freely talk to Sean Payton about the offense, as long as Bill... er...that someone agrees to let Spagnuolo do what he does. Better to wait until the last game of preseason to sign B.. er... someone, or even surprise everyone when Bi... er.. that someone walks out of the tunnel come Sunday 9/9/2012

Re: Jon Gruden

I think it's far fetched to think the Saints would hire an interim coach and have him show up out of the blue for opening day, BUT then again the Saints organization has become imaginative and visionary.

I never question Mickey Loomis anymore because he just knows more than I do. End of conversation.

You always get the feeling anything is possible with the Benson family and the Saints (Superdome, Mercedes-Benz corp. sponsor, Super Bowl, statues, Champion Square, Skyscrapers, Local TV affiliates, the Hornets... I could go on and on.)

Besides my outward dislike for Tom Benson and the organization in the past, they have become VERY entertaining.

As far as someone behind the scenes working already, a named star, former coach, etc. etc. .... with this team, the sky is always the limit.

I agree bringing someone from out of the blue would be an issue.

With technology today, I don't think someone outside the organization would be completely out of the question. The possibility of someone joining meetings remotely and joining in by voice/video is something that could stay out of the media. Would give someone outside the organization a "view" into the organization before they stepped foot in the building.

During the Jag game the announcers were talking about why the Saints may keep a 3rd QB, because Brees may have too much to do with Payton's suspension. The only reason I would think of bringing in an outside interim coach is to releive some of the HC responsibilities from the other coaches. The players are going to take some leadership no matter who is HC.

I run Messaging/Voice/Video systems for some major companies (worldwide). The infrastructure to make something like that happen is available, but is it something the Saints would consider. If they are creative enough it may have been considered, but we really won't find out until they release what they are going to do.

The HC decision to me is more about what role the person in the HC position takes. The interim HC could take several different roles, but will be up to the people involved to determine what role that is.

The Saints would still have to interview a minority candidate to satisfy the Rooney Rule.

I believe Joe Vitt will be named interim HC when he gets back from his suspension.

F*** it, Let's see if Shawn Merriman wants to be HC. Everyone apparently wants him so bad for things he can't do.

Why would Chucky want to be the interim coach of a cursed team?

Re: Jon Gruden

I believe that the plan is to grab our butt like the Lorax and magically fly by the seat of our pants through the first six games, then Vitt comes back and we get seriously down to business and put together a major run for the playoffs. Broncos-Eagles-Falcons x2 - 49ers-Giants is the meat of the schedule, and we will have Vitt for that. In my view the goal is simply to not have the wheels completely fall off the team, during the first six weeks. Even if we're something like 3-3 after the first six games, the Super Bowl is still highly do-able.

I would have thought Gruden would have had a shot after that last LSU and team I shall not speak championship game. I still get fired up when thinking about Les Miles stubbornness during that game.

He could definitely broaden Brees skill set, he could definitely work on his backward passes.

Hey, I'm a minority. I'll be happy do a token interview, if they let me in the Saints office.... give me a tour of the facility, let me play on the turf, and send me home with some Fleur De Lis Helmet decals.
