Packers Cut Hargrove

Should we bring him back?

Re: Packers Cut Hargrove

If we are thin at DT at or around week 7 or 8, I would be all for bringing him in.

Can he play LB?

Why not, if the price is right?

Of course he still has his suspension to serve.

I agree; no point in bringing him back until after his suspension is over...

Re: Packers Cut Hargrove

no point in signing him before week 1 or we are on the hook for his contract all year

In the FBL (Fat Boy League), maybe.

Just FYI, his suspension counts for any team that signs him. Whoever brings him back has to wait out his suspension. The suspension is for games which he is on a roster, not weeks of the year, regardless of what team he's on.

Good point.

I believe the suspension goes into effect week 1 even if he has not been signed by another team.

This is really going to hurt Hargrove, although I hope I am wrong. He has had a rough time staying in shape and out of trouble in the past. I hope he can stay focused and in shape, even if he isn't w/ a team.

Yeah, Hargrove is hosed. A team will have to get pretty desperate to pick up an journeyman player knowing he's got an 8 game suspension begining when they pick him up. And every week of the season it's gets worse. Half the season, then 8 game suspenson for 7 active games, then 6 active games, then 5....

Hargrove may get a year long suspension for saying something that we now know he didn't say.

Goodell is such a bozo.

"NFL spokesman Greg Aiello also told NFL.com and NFL Network that Hargrove's eight-game suspension will start in Week 1 of the 2012 regular season, regardless if he's with a team or not at that time."

I can't see any team picking him up until his suspension is almost or completely done with.

OK, that's way better. There's a good chance some team is running low on defensive linemen by then.

Teams can always use a DT, and Hargrove can play when motivated. Just hope he can keep his head (and butt) in shape until he is eligible to play again.

The way things go in the NFL, we jsut might need him in week 8 bring him in after the suspension

If he's in shape and ready to play by week 8 I don't see any reason in the world not to sign him if we need depth. I always loved that guy and thought he was very underrated.

Re: Packers Cut Hargrove

If the suspension is just weeks 1-8, who knows, he might have a handshake deal with the Packers to just sit it out on the couch...Maybe they are already planning to have him come back to the team when it's over in November, unless there have been massive injuries at some other position by that time. I'm sure he'd consider other offers, especially the Saints, but there may be more to this cut than meets the eye. For one thing, it would certainly save the Packers some money to have Hargrove off the books and on the couch, and then call him back in later.

Exactly what I was about to say.... if a team picks him up in week 9... he never plays this year.

Great for Hargrove! But honestly that makes about as much sense as his suspension for something he didn't say.
