Question for the Forum:

During the 'Saints want Parcells' frenzy, the Rooney Rule was brought up.

What minority coaches would you have wanted the Saints to interview/hire?

Before he ran his pie hole, I thought Herm Edwards would have been a decent choice.

The others that I can think of are:

Romeo Carrell(?)- I don't know much about him

Art Shell

Gruden.

no one else really that I think would been able to do it outside of Gruden or Parcells.

You could take a gamble on looking for an OC, who? I dunno.

Re: Question for the Forum:

I didn't know Gruden was a candidate for the Rooney Rule!

I guess a lot of others didn't know that either; of course that would explain why he hasn't gotten another coaching job yet!

I dunno why Gruden hasnt got a coaching job.

That has baffled me.

Re: Question for the Forum:

That would've been tough. I'm not sure who they have internally that they could've seriously considered for head coach.

Herm Edwards would've irritated me for a year but there would've been absolutely no chance he would've been considered for Payton's job after the season.

I respect Crennel a lot but after just hiring Spags I'm afraid they might have undermined each other's authority.

Art Shell already played the figure head puppet for Al Davis for the Raiders so it would've been a role he's used to and maybe after the season the Saints could've used him somewhere in the organization. He knows football so he'd be an asset somewhere.

But in the end, if the Saints would've brought anybody in from the outside besides Parcells, I would've probably ended up resenting them for taking Sean's place.

Probably some bright assistant somwhere. There is no former HC that I'd like to see.

Crennel is coaching the Chiefs...

The Rooney rule is BS; hire who you want to hire...

Less Laws, Less Lawyers, More Choices, More Freedom...

I think the Rooney rule is dumb and would be offensive to me if I was black.

I don't know enough to speak intelligently (of course that has never stopped me before)

Re: Question for the Forum:

I still don't think the "Rooney Rule" should have applied to us if we had gone outside the organization looking for an interim HC. The only candiate out there that made any sense to me was Parcells b/c of the history between him and Sean. Actually interviewing minority candiates at that point would have only been a sham and a waste of their time.

Re: Question for the Forum:

The thing that makes the Rooney rule so silly -- and that no one ever talks about -- is that, hypothetically, back when people were flapping their gums about the Saints "possibly violating the Rooney rule, if they hired Parcells"....it was March...the Saints could have hired Parcells in March/April to be BALL CATCHER for the team, waterboy, line painter on the field, PR spokesperson, extra mascot, whatever. Dumbest job title you can think of. And hypothetically they could have decided whether he would coach or not, in August....as long as he was in the organization, they could have PROMOTED HIM FROM WITHIN to head coach and there's nothing the league could have done about it. The same way that no one questions the Rooney rule when Vitt or Kromer take over the reigns.

Then everyone would have called the Saints racist, bounty hunter, cheaters for transparently flaunting the rules of the league again. I don't mind being the black sheep of the league, but you have to draw a line somewhere.

I never like Romeo. Doesn't look the part.

Dennis Thurman might get a look sooner or later

Re: Question for the Forum:

I think the Rooney Rule makes as much sense as having a Jeremy Lin rule to ensure enough Asians are in the NBA.

Folks with credentials should be hired on the basis of what they bring to the table, and how they will HELP the company/entity achieve their objectives (and profitability).

There... I said it! >:-(
