Trade Bait

Seeing how we're five deep (Thomas/ Ingram/ Sproles/ Ivory/ Cadet) with RB's do you think we can get any future picks for Ivory or Cadet in a trade with a Detroit? With suspensions and injuries, they have nothing and seem kind of desperate.

Any thoughts?

At this point, I would guess, Detroit will probably wait until Friday to see what shakes loose around the NFL in the last roster cut.

True, any competent front office probably has identified 4 or 5 legit prospects at every need position likely to be cut by other teams.

I'm sure that Ivory and Cadet are on many of those lists.

Just saw this on Rotoworld.com

"CBS Sports' Jason LaCanfora reports Lions GM Martin Mayhew has been calling other teams in search of a running back. This report suggests not only that the organization is aiming higher than free agent Ryan Grant, but also that Kevin Smith's ankle injury could end up leaving his status up in the air for the season opener. Saints power back Chris Ivory makes a lot of sense; he's fourth on the depth chart, and undrafted rookie Travaris Cadet has impressed in preseason action. "

Maybe they don't want to wait till Friday.

I could see us getting a 6 or 7th round pick but nthing more than that.

Re: Trade Bait

Slo- what will you give us? I'd take a 5th

Re: Trade Bait

Barring Sproles and an unproven Cadet, our RB's are fragile. We are going to need them down the stretch. A 6 or 7th is just not worth it IMO.
A 5th though for Cadet or Ivory I'm taking that deal along with a kicker if they hit certain earmarks.

I wouldn't trade with NO if I was any team.

I would sit tight and wait until they start cutting.

What's a draft pick?

I think Cadet is going to be a stud. A healthy version of Ivory. If we trade anyone, as much as I love him, it's gotta be Ivory.

Re: Trade Bait

Realistically, Detroit wouldn't offer anything that would be worth losing Cadet or Ivory... Unless the Saints have already made up their minds about cutting one or the other. If the plan is to keep them both, then I'd say no.

As this team has seen, injuries can come in bunches... Ingram and PT go down for example, then I feel great with Sproles, Ivory and Cadet in a rotation. A 6th or 7th round pick won't make me feel any better if that scenario played out.

Re: Trade Bait

The Saints lost Ingram against the Texans when he shouldn't have been playing, and we lost PT against 40-whiners last year.

The domino effect was that Sproles was taken off KO/PT return duties and a rusty player, (Joe Morgan) was inserted with disastrous results.

Although no one can predict when or if a player will be lost to injury, it may be in the Saints best interest to keep all 5, and then use Tusk or Cadet as trade bait later in the season.

The Steelers are another team that needs a RB; I don't know if they have any players the Saints would be interested in.

Re: Trade Bait

Detroit already has Joique Bell - remember him?

But a RB will have to be traded - we must get value...

An Offensive Tackle or Safety would be nice...

Re: Trade Bait

We won't get value for either.

Re: Trade Bait

Why would anybody want to offer a trade when they know we have to cut someone. We would have to keep them both and cut someone else to remotely have a chance at a trade and then I still don't see it happening.

Re: Trade Bait

I hate to be the one to tell you this, but nobody else in the NFL cares who the hell these people are. Cadet, Ivory, these guys are undrafted free agent dudes from small schools that nobody else has ever heard of, with tiny track records, no one cares a tiny bit about either of them, every other team has their own group of camp beast running backs, and as hard as it is for some Saints fans to realize, Cadet and Ivory have NO VALUE in trade in the real world. It's just part of doing business with the great front office we have. Nobody wants these guys, no one knows who they are, but we see it inside them and that's what makes them special.

I disagree. Every single team in the NFL have guys watching every single game by other teams in the preseason and they have their own "need positions" for which they try to scout potential players for.

If a team needing a RB doesn't know who both Ivory and Cadet are... well then somebody within that team hasn't been doing their jobs.

Believe me that there are probably 15 teams waiting to see if the Saints cut Cadet, and that is why a team would potentially give up a draft pick in a trade for either one of these guys, so that they won't have to battle with the other teams over the guys signature once he would be cut.

It's a busy couple of weeks for teams right now. Lousy time for trades, everybody is waiting to drop / add.

Re: Trade Bait

Trade for what exactly? A draft pick makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. We would only get a late round pick for them. Why gamble on picking someone with that pick just to hope they pan out. We already know what Cadet and Ivory can do, and thats way more than we are going to get out of ****ty draft pick. I can guarantee you if either of these guys gets cut they aren't even going to sniff the practice squad. Someone will pick them up like a free hooker in a prison. This is why I think we keep both. If we are going to make a trade, do it later in the season if someone gets injured.

I agree with this, but I will also admit that I am not exactly sure how it works when a guy is released to waivers...or cut. I believe there is a pecking order, and if so...that would explain why a team might trade rather than just wait. Even if there isn't a pecking order...you still would have to be pretty alert to grab the player before someone else.

Anyone who can clear this up for me?
