Re: Saints cut Matt Tennant

It was pretty apparent, when he didn't get the nod at center after Kreutz "retired" last season, that he hadn't really developed the way they had anticipated earlier when he was projected to be a future starting center.

So, while it's in a way sad to see him cut, I'm glad he is going to have the opportunity to fight for a starting job at another team.

Hokie said he was told by the Saints front office that the reason DLP was more valuable to them was because DLP could play all 3 interior spots, while Tennant could only play center.

They weren't diasppointed in his play at Center as much as his lack of being able to play LG or RG.

Homecoming for Tenant

Always feels like you have made a mistake when the Pats pick up one of your players. Unless that player is Sullivan.

OK, but I still think that they weren't really all that impressed with him since, if you remember, he was touted as the mantle bearer for Goodwin at the start of last preseason, but he didn't really perform well by the accounts I remember, and then they brought in Kreutz when that became possible after his negotiations with the Bears broke down.

Kreutz couldn't play any other position than center, and one could argue against that statement as well, but they were happy enough to give Kreutz the nod as the starting center over Tennant - to me that says something.

But, the versatility point does make a lot of sense when roster spots are at a premium.

Are you referring to Ninkovich, among others? :-)

You have to multi task now a days. You just can't play center you have to play the whole line.

The LB corps as it stands now is:

Casillas
Hawthorne
Herring
Lofton
Ruud
Shanle

Ezra Butler is on the practice squad.

Chamberlain is on the injured reserve.

And, Ramon Humber and Jonathan Vilma are on the reserve/suspended list. Humber won't be eligible to play until week 3 if I remember correctly because of violating the league drug policies or something to that nature.

Kadarron Anderson and Lawrence Wilson were two LBs they cut for the final 53 and didn't re-claim for the practice squad.

Where did Olsen come from? I don't know anything about him.

I can live with that. Thats a better unit than last years.

Also keep in mind if our offense clicks like it did lastyear, you'll see a ton of 2 LB sets as we go to our nickel defenses against teams forced to play catch up.
