Former New Orleans Saint Heath Evans to raffle Super Bowl ring
 

In an effort to raise money for the Celebration Hope Center in Metairie, former New Orleans Saints fullback Heath Evans is putting his Super Bowl ring up for raffle.

Tickets for the chance to win Evans' 14-karat ring, featuring 16 diamonds around the face that represent the 16 wins during the Saints' historical 2009 season, went on sale Monday morning. The Super Bowl XLIV ring, which is worth an estimated $10,000 also has 44 diamonds circling the entire ring.

Raffle tickets are $2 each and a minimum purchase of five tickets is required.

Sales end at noon Sept. 17 and the drawing for the winning ticket will be held shortly thereafter, according to a press release announcing the raffle.

The Celebration Hope Center (HHCD) works to help victims of childhood sexual abuse in the greater New Orleans area through its counseling services.

"This is something I thought about for a long time because I want to continue to help victims of childhood sexual abuse in the New Orleans area," said Evans, who is currently an analyst on the NFL Network.

Hummmm. Not sure I would raffle that... If I were Heath, id rather write a check.

Heath worked hard for his ring so he could and should do what he pleases but in the back of my mind I think the bounty system jump-started his process and left a bad taste in his mouth about the Saints – Just my opinion

I don't feel that way at all. He knows that a raffle on that ring would generate far more that he would be able to write a check for personally. Besides, he already gives far more in his time and money to this cause than most could imagine. Heath has had the Saints backs on this whole time.

That's probably right. I'm here in Salt Lake City and I'll buy raffle tickets. I'm sure the biggest limiting factor in how much they can make will be how far they can spread the word.

Fair enough... Maybe I am thinking with the mind of a father.... I couldn't raffle off someone thing I would give to my Daughters, grandchildren, etc...

I couldn't either. That's why I say good for him. He's making a serious sacrifice for others. That's what charity is all about. It's inspiring to see a celebrity or pro athlete willing to give till it hurts.

If I'm not mistaken his wife was abused as a child and it is a project very special to them. I'm sure he didn't make that decision lightly.
