Take a look at the winners over the past 30 years and give a summary of how you think their pro careers have gone.

2003: Jason White / Oklahoma -- Senior year campaign.
2002: Carson Palmer / USC -- Has not played yet, untested.
2001: Eric Crouch / Nebraska -- Could not make roster. Retired.
2000: Chris Weinke / Florida St -- Career backup, should Retire.
1999: Ron Dayne / Wisconsin -- Career backup to date.
1998: Ricky Williams / Texas -- Had the Mojo, wants the ganja. Retired.
1997: Charles Woodson / Michigan -- Is having an excellent career.
1996: Danny Wuerffel / Florida -- Career 3rd stringer. Retired.
1995: Eddie George / Ohio St -- Over 10,000 yards, will enter HOF.
1994: Rashan Salaam / Colorado -- Injured, Gone.
1993: Charlie Ward / Florida St -- Went into the NBA instead of NFL.
1992: Gino Torretta / Miami-FL -- Short career as backup. Gone.
1991: Desmond Howard / Michigan -- Made a mark as KR not as WR.
1990: Ty Detmer / BYU -- Long career as a backup.
1989 Andre Ware Houston QB - Mostly a career backup.

1988 Barry Sanders Oklahoma State RB - HALL OF FAME
1987 Tim Brown Notre Dame WR - Will enter HOF once retired.
1986 Vinny Testaverde Miami QB - Above average career. still playing.
1985 Bo Jackson Auburn RB - Great limited career cut short by injury.
1984 Doug Flutie Boston College QB - Energizer still going and going.
1983 Mike Rozier Nebraska RB - Short career due to injury.
1982 Herschel Walker Georgia RB - Very good and long career.
1981 Marcus Allen Southern Cal. RB - Great career. HOF.
1980 George Rogers South Carolina RB - Excellent short career.
1979 Charles White Southern Cal. RB - Average career.
1978 Billy Sims Oklahoma RB - Short career due to knee injuries.
1977 Earl Campbell Texas RB - Great career. HOF.
1976 Tony Dorsett Pittsburgh RB - Great career. HOF.
1975 Archie Griffin Ohio State RB - Couldn't make his mark as a Pro.
1974 Archie Griffin Ohio State RB - Had a better Jr. year than Sr. in college, see above as far as NFL..

When I look over this list it jumps out at me that if you break down the past 15 years and then the 15 years before that you can only find 3 players in the most recent group that have above average careers to date, but can count 5 Hall Of Famers in the prior group and several others that had careers as impressive as the 3 from the first list.

I agree with your assessment that 1989 through 2003 is entirely different from the previous 15 years in caliber of player and longevity.

If the last 15 years are any indication, this doesn\'t look good at all for Eli, thats for sure. I would not want to win the trophy if the last 15 years worth is the example of quality at that position. All are second rate a best.

It pain\'s me to say but I think Doug and Vinnie will be the most remembered out of the QB\'s. It\'s because they played for so long, not the fastest or most accurate just got the job done and didn\'t get hurt all that much.

George and Woodson will be the only 2 that will make the HOF from the last 15 years.

Now the previous 15 years I think 8 or 9 out of the 15 will make the HOF.

Flutie is a HOF as well. At least for the CFL, we\'ll see who starts this year in San Diego before saying how great his NFL career was/is.
