Ivory vs Cadet - who's inactive this week?

I heard some guys on Inside the Saints comment that Cadet will be inactive practically all season.

I disagree. If all our RB's are healthy, I see the odd man out as Ivory.

Cadet plays every secial team's unit and Ivory plays none.

I see Ingram and Ivory swapping being active based on who's dinged up. I think Cadet will be active a lot, barring injury.

What say you?

Re: Ivory vs Cadet - who's inactive this week?

I tend to agree with you. I think Cadet will be active because of his special teams play for one. Also Sproles has been dinged up and since Cadet is closer to Sproles style play, I have a feeling they may have Cadet on the sideline to spell Sproles to take some of the workload off him. I don't see them not activating Ingram unless he is injured though.

Re: Ivory vs Cadet - who's inactive this week?

I agree with Danno. Cadet is a versitile weapon. Ivory is a RB and thats it. I could see Cadet maybe inactive for the first 2 or 3 games just to get him up to par but other than that, I think Ivory rides the pine.

Thats the other issue. Is Cadet ready for NFL action right now, or does he need a few more weeks under his belt before he sees the field?

With Sproles a little bit gimpy, they may activate Ivory for injury insurance.

Re: Ivory vs Cadet - who's inactive this week?

Yeppers, I agree also

But I do think this situation means that Ivory's trade day is coming...the Saints have the luxury of being able to wait until mid-late season when someone is in a RB situation like we were in '10; contenders, but having to play our 17th string RB because there's no one better available. That makes Ivory's value to THAT PARTICULAR TEAM skyrocket, and maybe we can get better than a 7th for him

That is, if he can stay healthy that long.

Truth!

Sproles dinged up?

Saints' coaches listed Sproles as FULL.

...maybe I missed somthing.

and that is why we won't be dressing him this week

My guess is neither Ivory or Cadet will dress, unless Cadet is returning kicks to save Sproles and/or Roby. We didn't dress 5 at all last year.

Re: Ivory vs Cadet - who's inactive this week?

I know "you can only tell so much" from preseason, and all that, but Cadet seems too talented to sit for long. Frankly, all our RB's have struggled with injuries (Sproles was our only RB to play in all 16 games last season), so I think it's reasonable to expect to see Cadet dressed out this season.

Yeah, but did we have five to dress last year? Even if we would've wanted to?

I meant, maybe he's not 100% recovered from the groin injury that kept him sidelined all pre-season, even though he's listed as a full go at practice.

He didn't play but one pre season game, if that.

Unless we've given Cadet the return gig, I can see both being inactive.

Maybe, but I'd heard Cadet excelled on coverage units too.

Re: Ivory vs Cadet - who's inactive this week?

Cadet has good size, shiftiness, and displayed good hands during the preseason. To maximize the potential of all our toys, I'd love to see the Saints stretch him out and give him some reps at receiver. Not a permanent move or anything. Just to give us another weapon X... have a joker card up our sleeve.

Re: Ivory vs Cadet - who's inactive this week?

We won't be trading any of our backs. When we need a back we've got one. Ivory will not be active most of the year and is at this point an insurance policy in case Ingram goes down.......Lord forbid.

Yes- Ivory was hurt at the beginning of the year, but a 'healthy scratch' for a few games

It was only four last year, I think... Thomas, Sproles, Ingram, and Ivory?

Re: Ivory vs Cadet - who's inactive this week?

I have a feeling that with Joe Morgan and Cadet making the roster this year that Sproles might not be returning punts and kick-offs anymore. I know Sproles is probably the most durable RB in the league but why risk getting him hurt when Morgan and Cadet can both be kick returners?!

We sat Pierre for an entire year after his breakout pre-season

Situationally I agree, but once in a while you need to put out that home run threat. (But maybe even Joe Morgan for that?)

Because only 45 players dress every week...

I didn't know that.

Then we need more uniforms. C'mon man how much could 8 more uniforms cost to get the whole 53 man roster out there? I'll pitch in!

45 dressed players per game is a NFL rule, 8 have to sit every week...

I was adding the fullback du jour to the mix- we only dressed 4 total RB's each week.

If all of our RBs are healthy then they're both the odd man out. When everyone was healthy last season, I think Ivory was inactive. Why would we have four guys active now?

Because one plays every special teams unit.

Cadet's probably gonna be active as kick-off returner. I don't know that for sure of course but I just don't see the Saints leaving him sitting on the bench.

In that case it would have been six, didn't Hall and Collins both dress every game?

Well, who else might (AA) be on the (AA) inactive list? (AA) If we have to sit (AA) 8 players out, who would sit (AA) if no running backs (AA) sat out? (AA)

Re: Ivory vs Cadet - who's inactive this week?

Ivory will be inactive. With Sproles, PT, and Ingram all active, Ivory will not be among the 45. Cadet, since he can play special teams and spell Sproles, should be active most weeks.

It was the right decision to keep both Ivory and Cadet. We will likely need Ivory's bruising style later in the season, if either PT or Ingram get nicked up.

Thats a lot of hate for a player who hasn't cost us a game yet, at a position of abundance for the last 3 years.

I've heard talk that Sproles won't be the kick returner this year, but why would we do that? Why would we spell Sproles? He averaged 15 touches a game last year. I don't think that's too much. I guess we'll find out tomorrow.

Haha, honestly no hate. I just like to make fun of a player that hasn't really given us much of a game in the past three years. It's kind of like the Shanle thing for some where they can't figure out why he's still on the field. I'm thinking Spags can turn ol' Scott around. Charmichael-AA? Eh, not so much.
