Shouldve hired Del Rio

Now I'm convinced we should've hired Del Rio instead of Spagnola. This D looks awful - and against a talented, yet rookie QB.

Re: Shouldve hired Del Rio

one of the biggest issues I see is lack of adjustment throughout the game, like keeping RGIII in the pocket instead of rolling out all the time.

That should be a text book adjustment.

Just no pressure at all! I mean if our veterans don't want to generate pressure it's time to put our nasty players in. Akeem Hicks, Tez Wilson (who has the punt block) and junior gallett.

Nah. Its not a scheme thing but its the players who does not execute.

Defense? Really?

Our high powered offense has scored 10 points on the skins, and you wanna blame the defense?

Wow!

News Flash..

OUR OFFENSE JUST GOT OWNED BY JIM HASLETT'S DEFENSE!

Sorry Bro - but despite our lethargic offense, our D is still stinking it up, and I havent seen anything special from Spagnola throughout preseason amd now also in our first regular season game to make me feel any differently Spagnola benefited from some exceptionally talented pro bowl D lineman in NY and StL. We dont have that here. He's doing nothing scheme-wise to out any pressure on the RG3

Oh yeah. I blame the defense. We couldn't stop a rookie QB all day. I'm not saying the offense didn't suck, because clearly it did, but how many points did we surrender? Our defense sucks raccoon balls.

No one expected our defense to look great. But our offense underperformed way more than our defense did today.

How anyone can point to the defense as a reason we lost is embarrassing.

Haslett's defense owned our ass today. Our defense was about what we expected.

Re: Shouldve hired Del Rio

Offense should of had problems vs Redskins D. That scheme they run owns offenses like the Saints.

The problem was the Defense, it should of been a low scoring game kept in the teens or 20s but it wasnt.

I think his neck got bigger over the offseason and it has made him even worse in pass coverage.

Brees had 330+ yards and 3 TD passes. You would think our defense could help by at least stopping a rookie freaking QB from going all out on us.

Ive been a saints fan for a long time and I have never seen a QB as good a brees and this offense. Our defense - just like the last two post seasons has let us down remarkably.

So basically you're saying you expected our defense to suck, so we shouldn't be embarassed by it. Right - Try saying that out loud without laughing.
Face it - spagnola's D sucks right now and i'm not sure he can fix that. On the other hand, most of us here will probably agree that our offense will correct their mistakes. Our offensive problems are short term wheras our defense looks to give is a loong year.

Yes that is the prob, and has been, ever since the brees era started. The only reason the 09 defense looked good was because of turnovers - which is something totally out of our control. Our defense was ranked 30 last year - our offense always ranks high every year.

I think Greer coming back helps quite a bit

If the defense continues to play like that get ready for a very disappointing year, oh and that wasn't pass interference on Roman in the end zone.
Aaron Krohmer looked like a deer caught in the headlights, no emotions what so ever. Sean Peyton will be missed, thanks Goodhell.
As for as Spag the loser goes someone buy him a bus ticket out of town, I personally wanted Del Rio

On 52 pass attempts with 2 interceptions, yeah, that stinks.

Gotta give him a break on that last int, it was a hail mary situation and he was running from pressure...

The Moore over-throw was the very bad decision or ball slip whatever

Is that what you called what you watched today a bad game, I saw a defense coordinator that was clueless on how to defend a rookie QB. Spag is a loser ask St. Louis

I bet you $100 Philadelphia and the Giants would say different... and the Rams had a great defense just ask the Saints team from last year about that...

In 2010 the Saints had the #4 defense.

OK, I'll give him that last interception, and I'll even go so far as not to count those 4 or 5 blatant drops.

That's still barely over a 50% completion rate.

That stinks.

No doubt, but I'd rather see him throw the ball into the ground rather than letting Orakpo sack him over and over...

Redskins D played well; pressure + decent coverage and Drew had a bad game...

That's absurd! Everyone knows it was Shanle. :-)

44Champs 09-09-2012 06:06 PM

How many awful performances has our offense had in the last 5 years? They've consistently been a top 5 unit since Brees got here, and I bet there are 30 teams out there that would love to trade offenses with us. Yeah they stunk today, but i'll out money that they step up and finish ranked higher than iur defense does. Anyone that thinks differently has been living under a rock since '06. I hope I'm wrong about Spagnola, and if I am, I'll be the first to man up and say it.

IT's not SCHEME, it's PERSONNEL.
Spagnolo is a good D-coordinator when he has Michael Strahan coming off the edge.

25 points by the O - regardless of how they played - should ALWAYS be enough to win. It looks like we'll be in weekly shootouts, AGAIN. It's getting old.

On the other hand, 2 to 1 time of possesion will almost always lead to a loss. 1st game in a new defensive scheme. Defense needed some help from the offense and didn't get it.

I would consider that if they hadn't sucked from he first snap.
