Injured Saints

LB Scott Shanle didn't return for the second half...

WR Devery Henderson received a knee to the back of the head and didn't return...

CB Johnny Patrick had to be helped off the field and didn't return...

That's another injury to each position group...

Now you know why Coach Payton always kept lots of WRs, DBs...

Re: Injured Saints

These injuries are really starting to take their toll as the team, especially on defense is needing time to gel...

Re: Injured Saints

Seeing Patrick go down early in the game was really disappointing, but hopefully it isn't anything too serious and he'll bounce back sooner rather than later.

Re: Injured Saints

The Patrick injury hurts the most. With Greer out that leaves us starting our #2 and #4 CB, which leaves us with our 5th and 6th CB to play nickel and dime.

The Henderson inujry hurts because now we have no speedster that can catch. Joe Morgan disappointed yesterday and the usually reliable Colston looked aweful.

Losiing Shanle hurts only because we were already thin at LB. But from what I saw we could pull 3 vets off the couch and not do any worse than what we saw yesterday.

Re: Injured Saints

I'm worried about Henderson being sidelined for a loooooong time by the league for the potential concussion thing with that injury and the new rules. Like the way they wouldn't let Pierre Thomas back in the 49ers game.... They are going to stick it to us, on that one. I would not be at all surprised if the league doesn't allow Devery to come back in for 4 weeks or more.

Re: Injured Saints

Move Jenkins back to CB and start Quddus. Jenkins can't make less plays at CB. Sign Plaxico. Another big body opposite Colston is needed.

FinSaint 09-10-2012 08:11 AM

Re: Injured Saints

I was also thinking about the Jenkins move back to CB during the game, but I wonder if that would work with having played FS for the past 3 seasons - he would have to unlearn/re-learn a lot of stuff to make it a success.

Re: Injured Saints

Henderson is a big loss, especially if the other guys have the catching issues that seemed to be rampid yesterday. Any defensive injury hurts, we are way to thin already there. Other guys have to step up, they made it to the 53 roster for some reason, time to prove why.

Why do peolpe keep saying this, he was thrown 2 passes. TWO..one he should have caught and the other is debatable. He is hardly the person to single out. But apparently, singling out the #1 receiver on our team is no bueno.

Colston looked like he was scared to get hit.....and Colston has NEVER been afraid of any kinda of contact. That was really wierd for me to see. Also one of the few times I saw him get emotional on the sidelines after that fumble in the endzone...

Offense should take this whooping as a lesson. These defenses are trying to hurt us when they hit us even more now, probably because of the bounty stuff, and partly because with these replacement refs they can get away with some of it. Our skill players are gonna have to just suck it up and play just as physical. Cuz its NOT going to get any better.

Wasnt there secondary supposed to be horrible?

Their Safties were supposed to be. Which is why the Middle should have been more open. But between the drops and pretty much the whole offense seemingliy abandoning the game plan...we couldn't work the middle.

Well they had a starting CB (Griffin) and a starting safety (Williams) who started for the Vikings last season - and they were complete garbage last season, unable to cover pretty much anyone.

There was a reason we moved Jenkins to safety...........he couldn't cut it as a corner. And he's not doing much better at safety. I believe we should have traded him this offseason for whatever we could get. I'm not a fan of his bad tackling and bad angles.

Trade him to the redskins, they need safeties and we need wide receivers

Get Santana moss

They already beat us, couldn't hurt to trade him now lol

I thought Jenkins progressed at CB. He has not done anything at safety.

With the pressure they kept getting, it didn't matter.

Re: Injured Saints

I would be for starting Quaddus at starting FS, Jenkins to me is a SS at best enough quickness on a TE and most RB's but his tackling stinks, maybe a SS backup??

Re: Injured Saints

Jenkins and Harper didn't play nearly as bad as has been suggested.

RG3 only threw two passes over 15 yards downfield. They absolutely owned our LB's over the short middle of the field.

Agreed. I actually think Harper did decent. That P.I. call was total bs. Thats the best coverage by harper that I have seen yet.

I don't doubt that the lb's got owned but I also notice that with this zone D the corners are playing, if we don't get pressure, we are screwed. I seem to remember hearing something about Drew loves playing against zone D. The reason I can see is that once the receiver gets past the CB's zone he is wide open. maybe the safeties are suppose to be there, I don't know.

FinSaint 09-10-2012 03:54 PM

Re: Injured Saints

Harper clearly lost track of his man in coverage a couple of times, so I wouldn't exactly give him high marks for the game, but he, like all the other DBs, is still adjusting to the new scheme, so I'm expecting improvements.

Jenkins really has to improve his tackling if he wants to get another contract from the Saints or become an effective FS.

I've been really high on Jenkins ever since he was drafted, but I'm slowly starting to lose my confidence in him, his potential, and his development.

Re: Injured Saints

Bump this thread.... and keep those of us updated who are out of range of
WWL during the week.

Im particularly concerned about Devery --- cant believe I couldnt get any update on ESPN or NFLN. They kept talking about the same 3 guys -- Buffalo RB, Titans QB, and some other guy. I cant believe Devery wasnt
on their key injuries report.

But we need Johhny Patrick & yes, Shanle

During the game against the Redskins this past Sunday. ;-)

I'll give you exact time of play(s) if/when I re-watch the game later in the week...

Can you lose track of a player playing zone? If you are referring to Harper on the PI call, I didn't see it either.

I guess you can't in principle, but I remember him trailing the soon to be receiver in one play, but being just a couple of steps behind when the ball was thrown.

And on another play, he was once again trailing the receiver cutting across the field, but got tangled up with another Saints' DB which caused the receiver to be wide open when the ball was thrown.

I would have to watch the game again to give you the exact plays I'm referring to, and maybe I can do that later in the week when the wounds have closed up a bit. :-)

All good. I don't doubt what you are saying. It sounds like Harpers MO. Just didn't notice it with all the other suckage going on.

I wanted to say something like this sometime ago.
