Negotiations were ongoing Thursday night among Saints general manager Mickey Loomis and senior football administrator Russ Ball, and sports agents Joel Segal and Jimmy Sexton, who represent Smith and Henderson, respectively.

Veteran defensive lineman Willie Whitehead has been placed on the league's physically unable to perform list because of an injured right knee. His status will be re-evaluated Monday after he works out today through Sunday for team trainers. Whitehead does not count against the 86-man roster.
