Is 2012 The Year That Drew Brees Finally Wins MVP?

Six years ago, Drew Brees landed in New Orleans in Themistocles a natural disaster and a team that was virtually rebuilding. Since then, the leader of the Saints has compiled huge numbers and broken multiple records along with Pro Bowl trips and even a Super Bowl title.

The one thing that has still eluded him though, is the title of league MVP.

First thing’s first––Brees will never state that being MVP of the NFL is one of his goals. See, it’s not a team award and that is not what he is after, because there are loftier heights and bigger expectations he puts on himself.

Not if the line and the receivers don't do their job and he continues to have games like last week. I seriously doubt it anyway.

If we average 8 drops a game and he still throws for 339 yards per game (5,424 yards per season), they should give him the MVP for 2013 as well.

You don't throw for as many yds as Drew does and break records without throwing a few more interceptions than other QBs. When the line holds up most of Drews interceptions can be blamed on batted balls and off the hands of receivers.

Re: Is 2012 The Year That Drew Brees Finally Wins MVP?

I honestly don't think Brees is ever going to get the props he deserves from the "outside world" until after he has hung up the cleats. I don't even think about what they think of him anymore. I genuinely don't care.

Here's the thing I decided about it. Rodgers, Brady, Manning, those "elite" cats -- really if you look at it, all of these guys were celebrated and hyped at the very START of their careers -- first year or two they were starting QB, they were getting the big headlines. So that way, people in the media feel like they can take CREDIT for picking Peyton or Rodgers or Eli or Brady, to be superstars, "I always knew this kid was gonna be something special." But Brees has this thing where the media wrote him off in San Diego, sorta washed their hands of him, and he surprised everybody by coming back stronger -- he sorta wasn't supposed to do all this. That wasn't the storyline that was supposed to happen with him, the media never saw it coming with him OR with Sean Payton. So my theory is that they will never come around on Brees, until Hall Of Fame time or after his career is over.

How exactly does 14 INT translate to "MR INT"?

You do realize he played against WAYYYYYYYY better defenses than Rodgers did? Texans, 9ers.

If rodgers went up against the texans he'd probably throw 3 or more INT. We already saw him get spanked by the giants AND 9ers AT home.

Not to mention that unlike rodgers, brees BLEW OUT the super bowl champions, whereas Rodgers just barely beat them by a field goal.

Rodgers still has way more of an upside than Brees. Rodgers is younger and will likely be in the league a lot longer than Brees at his point. I love Brees but if I could swap out the two I would pick Rodgers to take this franchise into the future.

WTF?!?!?!!

What's your address? I'll ship you a Rogers jersey.

That's heresy!

The way voters vote for MVP.

NO

Because these retarded voters pretty much look at the first 4-5 games of the season and have their minds made up.

Since Peyton Manning is 1-0........you know they got him honed in on their radar.

It's always him and Rodgers, and Rodgers took the lead last night. Drew needs to come out and answer.

Drew is hosed unless we are 7-1 at mid hear and we did it in dominate fashion... Along with the packers being 4-4 and broncos being 4-4 and the Pats being 4-4

They will find any excuse they can to give it to P manning. He has only played 1 game and already you get this : "Broncos suddenly must be considered serious Super Bowl XLVII contenders"

This is not his year, not that he can't. He just wont, he will try that much harder, meaning taking more risks. Putting the ball up more for grabs, bad throws.
Yall cant tell me he feels more of an obligation to do more this year more than any. No coach, bigger contract ... he has something to prove, my god i hope that he can, I just dont see it

But you know what P manning is maybe the best ever. It's all a personal choice on who you put in the top ever. He is in that list of the best, along with several others

Hope they look like a superbowl team at least one more week.

Re: Is 2012 The Year That Drew Brees Finally Wins MVP?

No. He will never get it. When we won the Superbowl he had the MVP title ripped from him and it was given to Manning. When he broke multiple records last year, it was ripped from him and given to A. Rogers. I want to point something out; It seems that whenever the criteria that has been used for giving an MVP award is met by Brees (running game non-existent) it is suddenly a reason not to hand it to him. He will never win it because he is a Saint and we're supposed to know our place and not do so well. God Forbid that we are the first team to win a Superbowl in our home town. There will be so many asterisks next to it you won't believe.

Rodgers - 219 1/1 last night.

panties defense isn't the bringing what the Bears got.

Drew should have a field day, and it may very well turn into a shoot-out unless our defense figures a couple things out. Like how to stop the panties run game- TB did it, and apparently when scam doesn't run, he doesn't win. Another stat showed that when he passes for more than ~260 yds, hes like 0-9.

Not debating whether he is a great QB, we all know that. He may very well be the greatest QB, but that doesn't automatically make him MVP every year. Let's face it, they will find any reason they can to not give it to Brees.

I can't see it this year. Maybe once before he retires but as people have said, the media is in love with too many others before they give Brees his due credit.

If there is going to be any year it goes to Drew it will be this year.

We will have to be ahead of last years pace by the bye, Then the talking heads will say.. He did all of that with out a head coach etc... yada yada and he will get it.

I been on that rant for 3 years.

Its not really about him meeting the criteria and it becoming a reason to not give it to him.

What is really happening is, these damn voters is changing the criteria every season.

Basically when you look at it, you might as well believe the whole MVP is just a chagrin or rigged.

What was the reasoning behind winning the MVP one season, takes a 180 into another reason the next. Basically what is defined as MVP changes, voters is coming up ways to give the award to the person they want to give it to. Thats why you see TD-Int ratio mean the world one season, then all of a sudden that is going to change into something else and what mattered in last years MVP award, is completely thrown out the door the next.

I dont think Brees will ever win MVP because the voters wont allow it, if you look at the past many many years of voting MVP, its lopsided vote for 1 player when that particular season their was stiff competition in the running for the award, it should never be as lopsided when you tally it all up as it has been in recent years, that tells me the award is meaningless and probably rigged.
