If we got pressure up front no one would care about the DB's because they would not be depended on like they are now play after play.
Agreed, and no scheme is going to change that. I think we're in for a long year

Look, I'm trying to conceive of the fastest way we can rebuild our defense to suit Spags defensive style. If we acquire 2 vet d-linemen this offseason we would have improved this team overall by a lot. Just look at the Giants, Spags defensive scheme depends on 4 strong down linemen, period.

If we went out and blew our wad on DB's... heck if we had Charles Woodsen and Dion Sanders in their prime back there, we would not improve this D as much.

Right now our DB's are stopping runs AND covering passes all over the field which means we're not stopping offenses at the at the line of scrimmage, nor are we getting penetration on opposing QB's. This problem goes back to BEFORE Gregg Williams with similar personnel. Just watch the game on tv tonight, the 49ers' DB's are NOT involved on every single play like the Saints. That's because they attack at the line of scrimmage.

We do need to beef up the DB's, but first things first - acquire some d-linemen that can effectively attack the line of scrimmage.

We may already have a couple of the personnel you are referring to but since we have over paid under achievers on the line, we will never really know.

I mean, the pick 6 Drew threw at the 10 or whatever is obvious but how else did the offense give away 14 points?

Thanks!

Halo that's fine for next year but I'm wanting to see them do something this year. As Jerry jones said the window of oppurtunuity is closing. I certainly don't have the answer but that's why they pay Spuds.

1.I Partially Agree....San Francisco Has Arguably The Best Linebacking Corps In Football So It Doesnt Just Stop At The D Line
2.If You Notice We Always Try To Find The Next Big Thing At The D Lineman Postition Every Year...But We Never Look For A Safety...Yea You See Our DB's Making Tackles And Its Because They Arent Stopping The Passes Made On Them....
3. At A Fix Things Now Standpoint I Think We Need To Put Vilma On IR And Look For A Vet At LB and Or DL To Become A Leader Of This Defense While Its Still Early

Re: Our Defense

We should trade our first round picks for proven, established players...

Because it's become painfully obvious that we can't draft anything but offensive lineman...

What I want to know is - if it's not working with an old, slow Will Smith and a bust with Sedrick Ellis, then why aren't we giving some of the younger, faster players a start?

Where is Martez Wilson? Where is Akiem Hicks? If we're gonna suck it, let's starting building with younger, less expensive options so we can accelerate the building of this new defense?!?

And I'd like to see rotational play at the safety position as we can't keep oxygen on the field for Roman Harper or Reading Defenses for Dummies for Mr. BowTie-wearing G.Q. Wantanabe...

Drew threw a pick 6 and jimmy graham and lance more dropped passes on consecutive plays that we're for sure were going to be touchdowns.

Joker, I mean I think the move to Spags came because the organization was convinced we weren't going to make it back to the Superbowl with the Gregg Williams plan. You really need to remember back over the past 2 seasons, especially the past 2 playoff losses. No way this team would make it back with that D that depended on turnovers as a driving force - a risky scheme at best.

It's apparent to me this team is rebuilding its defense. As of today's game, our Defense is only slightly worse than last's season Gregg Williams' version. I think our front office can have the defense mostly improved by next season, but it's rare a new coordinator comes in with current personnel and the squad makes a total 180, especially on defense.

For this season, our o-line run blocks well, the pass not so much. The offense needs to concentrate on more ball control because we have the horses and the line. Otherwise Drew does not have time to throw. That's how we can make a run this season. I saw us run/screen on Carolina at will. Grind the clock and keep the opposing offense off the field. Our defense is NOT our strong suit.
