Why you shouldnt panic just yet.

I will start with the obvious... If you could actually predict what will happen next week, much less the remainder of this season your ass would be filthy rich, and you wouldn't need to watch the games. Your home would reside in a zip somewhere in Vegas and you would be "The Man"! I know some feel they have some sort of mystical power, but for the sake of this argument we will all pretend to be normal and human.. K? ok...

As you can see, performance for the first two weeks is an indication of zip/zilch/nada.
0-2 We started this way in 1990 also... We made the playoffs.
1-1 In 2005 we started the season this way and went 3-13.
2-0 In 2002 we started the season this way and didn't make the play offs.

The Chair analogy
If you put a master carpenter in a room full of wood but no tools what will he have crafted by the end of a the day? At best different looking stacks of wood, they may be pretty... after all he is a master, but your not getting a chair.

If you put the average Joe in a room full of wood but a good supply of tools, I will bet he produces something resembling a a chair. It may be ugly as sin but he can make you a chair.

At the end of the day, what really matters to you? Something pretty or the chair?

For the sake of those who would like it spelled out. Chair = Super Bowl... I do not give a crap how good it looks as long as we find a way to take it all the way. There have been teams that have done it with a lot less talent, and a lot worse coaching. The odds do seem to be against us but those are just odds, not certainties.

2012 Saints = A room full of damned good tools.

Now... Unless you can prove with out a doubt that you have mystical powers, I suppose you should resign to the fact that this will be what it will be and right now you have only speculation. If all you have is speculation, and you insist on voicing it, you should seek a career with ESPIN.

A little morsel to help you:
2-0 teams in the NFC
Eagles - This will not last
Cardinals - You know this will not last
49 ers - They are looking damn good this year.

Play Off Birth We are not THAT far behind
Atlanta 0-2 after tonight. 1 conference loss no Divisional Loss
Tampa bay 1-1 1 Divisional Loss, 1-1 in Conference
Carolina 1-1 1-1 in Division and 1-1 in Conference
New Orleans 0-2 0-1 Division 0-2 Conference

We will win games, but there is no way we can make it all the way with our defense. Just not happening. I'm a realist.

Here is some reality:

If Green Bay and New England can do what they did last year with the 31st and 32nd ranked defenses... So can we.

But they got turnovers and their front 4 alone accounted for 30 of their 45 sacks for the season

If you want to identify turnovers, we are presently tied for third in the league for fumbles in Defense.

And while we have zero interceptions... We have had no less than 4-5 that were in the hands and dropped by our defense. that shows a hell of a lot of promise. If we catch those we are tied for first or second.

this defense will jell, don't give up people. in spags we trust. we will come together. the offense has its share of problems itself. when it all comes together, we'll be baaaaacccckkkkk.

... it's all about making the playoffs. 14 games left, a lot can happen between now & then ... not gonna' panic just yet. Next week is Kansas City ... that's where the wheels get back on track. If not, then maybe start panicking a little because the following week is @GB and then SD at home.

Re: Why you shouldnt panic just yet.

Here's why I won't panic,
Atlanta loses to Denver tonight,
Atlanta loses @ San Diego next week

Carolina loses to the Giants
Tamp loses @ Dallas
New Orleans beats KC

We're all sitting at 1-2 in the NFC South.

Take some Midol boys and tighten those bra straps, the Saints are gonna be just fine.

Re: Why you shouldnt panic just yet.

Yet another "way of looking at things" to keep you from buying a rope.

0-2 only looks bad if you put it in that context if we lost two in a row in week 8-9 would you be as worried? Say we were 7-2... would the season be over?

What everyone is missing is that one game where everything comes together... That will happen.

All players from 2-0 teams
If we were 0-2 and had Kevin Kolb as QB... Buy some rope
If we were 0-2 and our best Wide Receiver was Brent Celek... Buy some rope
If we were 0-2 and our best rusher was Jackie Battle... Buy some rope
If we were 0-2 and our best Tight End is Jeff King... Buy some rope

We are 0-2 with Drew Brees, Marques Colston, Pierre Thomas, and Jimmy Graham..

So we have arguably the best QB, TE in the league and one of the most productive RB in the league...

Just for clarification..Atlanta will not be 0-2. They won last week. I am not panicing yet. If we drop another division game, we will be hard pressed to make the playoffs.

I'm going to be the biggest Peyton Manning fan in history tonight. If the Broncos manage to win, then we're back in business trailing by only one game in the division.

I like your enthusiasm. Meanwhile, the Lions lost their first game and a lot of "fans" are jumping off of the bandwagon already. I like the optimism. That is what you have to have when in the NFL

The Falcons are 1-0. After tonight they will be 1-1. Love your positive way of looking at things, and you are right. Also the 07 Giants went 0-2 and their defensive stats were very close to ours. Besides Osi and Strahan they really didn't have much talent. The talent they did have like Tuck were rookies and not near the players they are today.

Finally some sense and not all the doom and gloom, we're done, get rid of Spags, blah, blah, talk. If we're still playing like this after four or five weeks then we can break out the forks and start sticking. As for right now I have a good feeling that this team will turn it around. We've lost two games by 8 points that we had no business even having an opportunity to tie or win. I just have a gut feeling this team will start hitting on most if not all cylinders then it will be katy bar the door. I just hope my gut is right. :bng:

And other teams' offenses can't mimic the zone spread crap that RG3 and sCam Lootin' can run.

I expect we'll look pretty good versus KC, and it'll help getting Greer, Patrick and Henderson back 100%.

I'm not panicking for 2 reasons.

Spags system takes awhile and this is proved by the 2007 giants, during that time the giants kind of sucked(similar to us).

I want to see how Vitt does.

Re: Why you shouldnt panic just yet.

We need to get that one victory under our belt to get some confidence. That will come against the incompetent Kansas City Chiefs. We win by 20 you can write it down.

Also, why did the bad Peyton Manning have to show up at the Georgia Dome?

Nice post...like Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy's "Don't Panic".

It also helps that I've suffered through some really, REALLY bad Saints teams. We used to think that 0-2 was good if the games were at least close.

As bad as he was, as many interceptions as he threw, as many turnovers they had total, as many one sided calls that were against them, they still almost won that game. IN THE GEORGIA DOME.

I'm not ready to throw in the towel on this season either. The last 2 offensive styles gave our defense fits but here comes KC with a more conventional style offense and we're home. This works in our favor. We will win this one and get off the snide. And look around the NFL this past week, it was strange.

TheOak 09-19-2012 08:43 AM

Re: Why you shouldnt panic just yet.

This is what drives me nuts LOL.

Manning throws three INT's and people say "He still almost won the game"

Drew throws two and the beating starts.. lol

The Saints are only 2 games out of first place in the division with 14 to go...

Too early to panic...

Concerned maybe, but have watched this team too long to consider panic...

Danno 09-21-2012 06:31 PM

Re: Why you shouldnt panic just yet.

I wouldn't even panic if we lost to KC. If the Giants and Packers can back into the playoffs and win 3 Superbowls, the only thing that really matters is being one of the top six after week 17.

Concerns? Doubts? Worries? Hell yes.

Panic? Hardly.

Seer1 09-21-2012 08:13 PM

Re: Why you shouldnt panic just yet.

I'm saying it depends on when those eight wins happen. If we win eight in a row to finish the season, then hell yeah! I'm still more concerned about those **** assed fake stripes out there on the field.

It's time to panic when your Defense SUCKS!!! but your Offense suck's almost as bad and your only savior is your special team, we are pre-2005 Saints as of right now!

Our D has started very slow in both games, although we have lost both games we haven't lost by a great margin. I know it seems bad but it isn't, a few more stops by our D and we could be 2-0 instead of 0-2. Our O is off and I don't like the fact that they were man-handled at all, they better fix that problem asap or it will be a long season. Keep the faith.

Oh Well! 0-3 as we head to the Packers next week!

Things not looking too good for us now!

The way things are going it would be amazing if we could manage to finish the season 8-8!

Hopefully things will come good but I'm afraid I don't see it happening on our current form!

Will always support the Saints though, that's for sure! :-)
