Versus the Chiefs

Chiefs actually have a lot of weapons. Hillis ran all over us back when Cleveland came to the dome in 2010.

With our defense as pathetic as it is I'm gonna guess they score at least 30 points (and I'm being conservative).

Re: Versus the Chiefs

Defense will have to show us something... Force them to punt a time or two and maybe...

We just need our defense to show up period!

Re: Versus the Chiefs

Cassel will throw for 300/Bowe will have 100yds receiving. This should be a get well game, i'm not giving up hope, we just need to score 40.

Re: Versus the Chiefs

I think the defense will look better against conventional offenses; the preseason game against the Patriots(starters vs. starters) immediately comes to mind.

I'm not saying we'll be that good, but has to be an improvement over the first two games. Maybe Greer will start this game and Patrick will take over the nickle...

I totally agree with this. RGIII and Newton are two Qbs a defense learning a new scheme are going to take some time to get used to.Hopefully playing them early like we did was actually a good growing experience for us.

Linebacker Scott Shanle said initial impressions of the Saints' defense could be skewed because New Orleans opened with a pair of unconventional, dual-threat quarterbacks: Washington's Robert Griffin III, then Newton.

Yet the Saints spent nearly the entire offseason learning how their new defense works against conventional drop-back passers, which is what they will see this Sunday against Kansas City and quarterback Matt Cassel.

"The past two weeks, we've been running defenses to take things away things you really don't work on a whole lot," Shanle said. "It'll be good to get back to conventional stuff."
Hope this is the case

westbankdaze 09-18-2012 05:23 AM

If the defense does come out with a show of force it could provide a lot of confidence for the team. The killer is having to go to green bay the next weekend - which I am dreading. If we end up facing the packers at 1-2 it will be our first true statement game to see where the team is at.

I want our defense to hold them to 17 or less. I want to thump these guys. I want to feel good next week

The question is do we want to. We need a major infusion of talent and we'll only get that with draft picks. It's obvious that, without a coach, this team is a ship without a rudder and is going nowhere. The colts bit the bullet last year and threw the season and now they have a foundation to build on. We need to do the same.

This is beyond shameful.

So based on what Shanle said, we can only win a playoff game (should we get there) if we do not face an unconventional QB?

There are not enough message board emoticons or internet slang or funny captioned pictures in the entire universe to convey how shameful and absurd and wrong this premise is.

No we do not! We are only missing a few players from being great and actually we may have them once they learn the new defensive scheme. Get Greer & Patrick back full from injury and they start playing the zone schemes like they are suppose to and not revert to man coverage like they did on that blown coverage of Smith on Sunday and this team will win. Can't believe after 2 games people are ready to write this team off!

We already have a good draft pick taken away- playing poorly won't bring that back.

Its like "Suck for Luck" all over again

What's the cutesy rhyme this year? Is there even anyone worth tanking a season for?

"Jonesin' for Jones" (Jarvis Jones, LB from UGA)

Re: Versus the Chiefs

the chiefs do have plenty of weapons to utilize this year

Thunder/Lightning in Hillis/Charles

Bowe is a very good receiver

Also Dexter McCluster is no joke, and if Eric Berry is healthy he's a good safety.

KC is no pushover, but I do think we should beat them with whatever Domefield advantage we still have

Re: Versus the Chiefs

OK, let's do it your way. Let's go out and win a couple of meaningless games. Let's beat the chefs, the raiders, maybe the yucks and cats at home, maybe win one or two other games and go 6-10 or 8-8 or whatever and then, instead of drafting at the top of rounds, be drafting in the middle like always and have to trade away draft picks to get players we need. (re: Mark Ingram) Does winning meaningless games REALLY mean that much? I'm more worried about the future than I am about this year where we've already fallen coming out of the blocks.

so wait; we are supposed to throw away the rest of the season so we can get the top draft pick?

Absolutely the Saints can beat the Chiefs!

I'm from Kansas City and I have been a Chiefs fan since I was a kid and when I was 12 years old and they won the Super Bowl I wore that sweatshirt with pride till it fell apart.

Yes the Chiefs have some talent but I honestly feel they have also been out coached the last two games

GM Piloli is taking most of the heat this week for Sundays embarrassing 35-17 loss against the Bills - but I think there's plenty of blame to go around.

Arrowhead is loud - real loud - but the dome should play a factor - if the fans make it loud and keep it that way for the entire game.

So exactly what college player do you see right now to draft that's worth throwing away games? Our QB is locked up for 5 years, Colston and Thomas are locked up, the window of opportunity is now not 5 years from now.

What you hope for is that some hotshot DOES emerge during the season (like last year) so that teams are willing to trade up for them and give us THEIR draft picks. We swap 1s and get their 2 and 3 and maybe a 1 the next year. Use those picks and our own and get the talent we need.
The thing is that this season ended before it started when our coach was taken away. I've had season tickets since I graduated from college and will have them for the next 20 years (god willing). I'm no longer concerned about this year. I want to have a team to cheer for the next 20.

0-2 people. KC is a beatable team. It's in our house. Granted I have no confidence in our defense but I do think we can put up more than they can and win it. We are a good enough offense to stay .500 while our defense rounds into below average form and actually gives us a chance to win a few where we can't score 30.

That why you have NFL scouts....
They're watching folks that will be ready when that time comes. I'm NOT a fan of throwing away the season base off 2 games. I'm hoping things start clicking... soon

I wont flame you, because I like you, and someday you might save my life, or at least fix my
bellybutton. But I could never be on board with doing that. No way.
Neither Kromer, nor Vitt will do it, because this is Open Audition Time for
both of them.

How about if we lose this weekend? How about if we go 0-6 before Vitt returns? At what point would you be willing to say "Yeah, go ahead and lose 'em all so we'll have a better team next year"?

maybe at 0-14.
I disagree because:
-- there is no guarantee your #1 pick will produce. remember shawn knight?
-- we've actually had better luck with lower picks & free agents.
-- losing is also an attitude
-- just for the sake of honor. I couldnt do it. if it is ever confirmed that
teams do that, then football becomes wrestling.

You didn't read my later posts where I explained the importance of moving up in the draft. It wasn't to get one particular player. Being the "colts" of this year would give us the option of drafting multiple players we need at the front of the draft. This was never a good idea a couple of years ago because you had to pay big money to untested players, but now, with a rookie salary cap ...............

... and really, at 0-13, you would want to give up the first overall pick just to win a totally meaningless game?? really?

cmon, i've been a Saints fan nearly 30 years. I've been to whole lot of meaningless games and
wanted to win them all.

I never said I had given away my tickets and yes, I had them all the way back to the bag days, still have them today, and plan to have them another 20 years, but as I said in a post above, I've quit caring about this year. Without a coach, we're dead in the water. I want a team I can cheer for the next 20.
