New Orleans Saints kicker Garrett Hartley off to a good start

An offseason and training camp of competition apparently has done New Orleans Saints kicker Garrett Hartley some good.

After beating out veteran kicker John Kasay in a training camp battle, Hartley is off to a splendid start to open the season. He has made all three of his field-goal attempts, including a career long 53-yard in last week's loss to the Carolina Panthers.

"It's always good to get off to a strong start, but at the same time it doesn't change anything," Hartley said. "My preparation week in and week out is the same. I'm going out and getting the reps with Chase (Daniel, the holder) and Justin (Drecher, the long snapper) and making sure I'm striking the ball well."

For once, Hartley can't get blamed for the losses

I'm glad we held on to Hartley over Kasay. After watching him blast that 53-yarder last Sunday, he showed he has the leg for possible game-winners or clutch FG's later on down the road. A lot of Kasay's kicks seemed too flat and shaky a lot of times. They really made me nervous. He did an admirable job last year, but it was the right call to keep the NFC Championship game hero and Super Bowl record-breaker on the roster.

So much for all of that!

Umm no. I've never been on that wagon.

I would of Preferred kasey myself...

Hartley is good and bad.... That is pure inconsistency.

So shall we revisit the Atlanta game again now? Since a good FG by Hartley would have meant no OT, and a win.

I would have preferred neither. Kasay's leg is weak at his age now, and Hartley can never be counted on. He was just one of the many reasons we lost today.

Me neither, I've always disliked sHartley. I thought after the clutch 2009 postseason performance that he could be trusted. I was Frong.
