So what made everyone think we would be ok this season without coach?

I'm kind of amazed honestly at everyone's meltdown. Coach Payton has his job for a reason. If we weren't sucking and we were in fact clicking along like the last couple of years I'd kind of wonder why he did have his job.

Head Coach's have their job for a reason. It's that simple.

I truly thought the defense would improve, even without Sean. Boy was I wrong.

I truly though we have enough talent and that with Drew's leadership the offense would be at least okay without Sean. Boy was I wrong.

Hey man- apparently you are right. I miss the guy, even if we had won I would have wanted him back. All that said, hey I hope we find a way to salvage the season. Doesn't look likely, but I'll be a fan no matter what

Re: So what made everyone think we would be ok this season without coach?

For me its simple. I've heard NUMEROUS times that the NFL is about players, not coaches. Even the morons in the studio said "coaches coach and players play" meaning don't blame the coaches for the players stinking it up.

I've always thought coaches had more to do with a teams success than many thought, but apparently I under-estimated my own opinion greatly.

Drew isn't nearly the leader I thought he was. He's just an important cog in Sean Paytons well oiled machine. Ditto for his assistant coaches.

Sean is officially the HMFWIC!

I was very angry at this game..... Offense shut down in the second half, and the defense shut down before the game started..... Brees looks lost out there..... Sean Payton is definately missed....

Apparently Payton on couch = Peyton on sidelines

Re: So what made everyone think we would be ok this season without coach?

Honestly I think no Coach Sean Payton is breaking our back, but it's no Joe Vitt or Payton for six games that is really what's killing us RIGHT NOW. The combo of the two missing head coach and assistant coach = headless chicken running around.

Beer, whiskey, other things I want mention, dilusional, dumb, mentally challanged, take your pick why. Benson hired one he!! of a coach in Payton. Brees looks ordinary without him, the O-line looks undiciplined and the D needs help, make no mistake Payton makes the Saints tick without him this is what we are.

Because it's unprecedented.

Me too. A lot of us were saying how bad the D was last year. Compared to this year, I think I would take last years D any day. I just can't understand how they can be this bad. We upgraded the LB position, which was a HUGE problem last year and yet we still have a terrible D. I give up on them until I see an improvement.

I've been saying it from the beginning. What puzzles me is some of the experts like Ditka, and Cowher, and Gruden, and Jimmy Johnson, not seeing this coming after actually BEING a head coach. Dumb!

Re: So what made everyone think we would be ok this season without coach?

What made me think everything would be Ok without a head coach was I thought the players/game had evolved to the level of being on auto-pilot and coaches were merely strategists who's importance during the week's practices/game planning did not necessarily translate onto the sidelines game day.

I was wrong. I was dead wrong. I won't be wrong about this ever again.

The Head Coach on the sidelines today is just as important as back in the days of Vince Lombardi, Bo Schembechler, Woody Hayes, Don Shula, Tom Landry, Bud Grant, Chuck Knoll, Paul Brown, Bill Walsh, Joe Gibbs ...

Re: So what made everyone think we would be ok this season without coach?

Because I thought Drew would be calling more audibles at the line and get the offense rolling. Also thought Spags could light a fire around this defense.

Wrong and wrong.

There was plenty to be optimistic about. Carmichael's play calling success last season, Spags history as a DC, a all world quarterback, etc.

A lot of us are in the same boat. Oh well... obviously my expectations are dampened significantly, but it was better to look forward to the season and an optimistic approach rather than be a grouch ball calling it a season before it even started.

I'm shocked...
I really thought we'd win the easy game(the last 3) and split the harder ones. I really thought 11-5 and 12-4 was very possible.

Re: So what made everyone think we would be ok this season without coach?

We have a problem with every unit just about on the team...top to bottom.
OLine- Terrible
WR- Terrible...cant catch all of a sudden, Colston playing with one foot cause Morgan blows so bad that Colston with one foot > Morgan
QB- Cant make a throw because O Line CANNOT block anyone.
RBs- Theyre ok when the get the ball
DLINE- What a joke...
LBs- Dline makes them look worse than maybe they really are. (three 1st round picks)
CBs- Nice to have Greer back. Robinson (1st round pick) might not be a back up on other teams with a C average Defense
Safety- HAHAHAHAHAHA, Jenkins (1st round pick) wouldnt start anywhere else.

COACHING STAFF- WOW!! Kromer, who many said was by far the best man for the job, inherits a superbowl caliber team and is 0-3 vs team who now only have 1 win for the season. He is pathetic. He looks scared $h!tless when the camera shows his face.

Wrong and wrong.

Actually Drew is calling more audibles at the line. It appears to me he doesn't trust Carmichael enough and Carmichael is afraid to call him out for the audibles he is making. One I remember in the second half he changed to a run play and PT lost 2 yards because there were 6 guys at the LOS.

Turn the coin over!

If Payton was on the sidelines coaching and the Saints were still 0-3, what would everyone be blaming our winless start on then?

Can't answer that because I honestly believe if Coach payton was here we wouldn't be 0-3.

Re: So what made everyone think we would be ok this season without coach?

having vitt isnt going to change anything.....this season is going exactly how I thought it would go..I even thought those of you talking superbowl and playoff etc etc are foolish homers. Payton was here for a reason, we have no other Sean Paytons on this team in his absence, brees obiously was here for the money so how is he going to take the load of carrying this team ? WAAY to much has happend this offseason, worst offseason in saints history, VILMAS stupid ass tweets everyday are another distraction to the team...hes probabley running around the locker room talking bounty crap with everyone instead of folks focusing on "doing thier damn job"

foolish homer here.
I know, really, we cant win, but I'll be there in my seat, just like its 1985... beating the drum, raising hell, Believing, like its 2009.
