A simple idea that could have a huge impact
I posted this on PFT a few minutes ago, just spouting off, but the more I thought about it the more sense it makes. The premise is:

If even half the fans from the 4 teams Goodell has most visibly screwed over – Packers, Saints, Cowboys and Redskins – were to say “enough” and boycott the NFL for one single weekend, there would be so much revenue lost the league and owners would have no choice but to take action.

Think about it. They screwed the Cowboys and Redskins by taking away cap room for supposed salary cap violations in a year when there wasn't supposed to be a salary cap. The Packers and Saints, well, you know.

The Cowboys, Redskins and Packers are three of the league's most storied franchises and carry a ton of clout. The Saints may not be on their level, but they are certainly a franchise with some power given their profitability, visibility, success, etc. post-Katrina.

I certainly wouldn't want to hurt the Saints, and I'm sure no Packer/Redskin/Cowboy fan would want to hurt their team either. But think of the financial impact that would have. No ticket sales, no concessions, no Madden purchases, no apparel sales.

For one week. Just one. How many millions of dollars would be lost to these owners? If they want to be all about the bottom line, we should show it to them.

If there happen to be any fans of those teams lurking, spread it around. Let's see what happens when all these greedy bastards get what they deserve.

Fans won't do this, and if they did it would have very little impact financially if any. Tickets have already been paid for and the TV sponsors have already bought there commercial time. Its a good idea in premise, but I don't see it having much effect. Goodell has already shown how little he cares about the fan anyway so it wouldn't be any skin off his ass.

I like the idea.

But with Tue, Nov 6th approaching and most of the electorate being clueless about the significance of a congressional and presidential election?

I would be disheartened to see this get more support.

Mods, feel free to remove this if it's out of line.
I am in a mood..........

Re: A simple idea that could have a huge impact
I think the "Take a Knee" protest that was discussed by the Packers would do more than anything to show how the players could effect the situation.

The Thursday Night game would really be the best place for the players to take a stand, or knee in this case, for the most visibility.

If somehow the teams came to an agreement to take a knee and punt (or run out the back of the endzone) their first series of each half neither the teams/coaches/players would really be in any violation of any rule.

It would definately put the issue right back in the FACE of everyone, but NO WAY would Baltimore and Cleveland agree to that.

It would definately give the NFL something to think about for the games on Sunday, and again on Monday Night.

The media may not like the idea and blast the players, but doing it only one series would limit the FAN impact.

Re: A simple idea that could have a huge impact
I would laugh my ass off if I saw a 0-0 tie at the end of a game cause both teams took knees/ran the ball out of the endzone every play.

If I were a season ticket holder however, I might not even crack a smile.

Re: A simple idea that could have a huge impact
The real #1 weapon that the fans have in all this is the famous "Bull ****! Bull ****! Bull ****!" chant in rhythm at the games. We had a good one going over the Roman Harper PI call against the Skins, I was disappointed we didn't get another one going during the Chiefs game, after the Pierre Thomas TD or during all those delays. I heard a good one over the TV during the Ravens/Patriots Sunday night game.... I tell you, if that "Bull ****! Bull ****! Bull ****!" chant goes out audibly over live TV, it can't be bleeped, and I guarantee you it gets people's attention at the networks (FCC violation) and the league office, more so than any weak protest or NFL boycott or letter to the editor or whatever. The NFL is really too big to be affected by a boycott.

The people in the stands have the power, the people on the couch, not so much.

I can also see the coaches getting into it, and doing crazy stuff like argue and get themselves ejected over a bad call. I could totally see a famous coach picking an argument -- one of those coaches who is secure and can't really be fired, like a Bellichick or Andy Reid type dude. I could see a coach screaming about a bad call, and being like, "GO ON, EJECT MY ASS, I don't give a damn, I want people to see this on the news tonight." And then the bad call gets played over and over on TV that night, with footage of him being thrown out. If a coach got thrown out, ejected from a game, on purpose, it would get the owners' attention AND almost the whole world would probably be behind the ejected coach, supporting him if it was truly a bad call.

There is a lot more to what the Skins and Cowboys did... They got what they deserved.

Re: A simple idea that could have a huge impact
No matter if anything occurs. There are 32 players that could bring it togeter and possibly make a BIG statement on their own.

The 32 starting QB's.

If they were able to pull something together on their own and then inform the NFLPA legal team (if they could keep it private) what was planned they could pull something off that was COMPLETELY UNEXPECTED.

Buy a Chinese-made jersey and send some of the savings to

That's my plan IF, IF, IF we get on a roll and I get motivated.

Re: A simple idea that could have a huge impact
From what I understand about the TV revenue is the stands could be empty for every game and the teams would make money. The tickets and concessions are split between the two teams playing. It amounts to "walking around" money for the owners. It would have the same effect a $10,000 fine has on a player with a $5,000,000 contract. Then of course the fans do get behind a boycott and it gives the owners (except Green Bay) a justified reason to "relocate". The fan can't win.
