Jimmy Graham

Is it just me, or has he been disappearing in the second half all year? Is he under triple coverage or something?

Re: Jimmy Graham

We have been out-adjusted at half time in every game this year.

It seems like he isn't trying and his fire is gone. I was wondering as well. It seems like he is afraid to take a hit now

Do explain how it looks like he's not trying... and he does not look tentative on the field at all.

Re: Jimmy Graham

I thought I made that clear. He used to have fire when he caught the ball, he was hard to bring down, and I saw him like swat a ball down when he was going to take a hit. Out of character for him.

Re: Jimmy Graham

And as of last week he led the league in drops. Moore and Sproles probably do now, but for the best Tight End in the league he has been dropping a lot of balls. Something is not right with him. He used to throw people out of the way and would fire up the whole team and now he is just quiet. He is still great but something is definitely missing.

Uhh.. I'm not sure we just watched the same game. He had plenty of fire and did not shy away from contact. You apparently missed his scream after that first down conversion in the first quarter and a stiff arm he laid on someone on a pass toward the sideline.

winmill1 09-30-2012 07:10 PM

Re: Jimmy Graham

Yeah I missed that because he would do that after every play last year. And you think he doesn't go down easier now then last year. I find he definitely in the last two games specifically he heard footsteps and shied away from contact and went down easier than usual. I am not saying he isn't great but he set the bar for himself high and something seems off. He also seems to drop balls lately when he feels a defender bearing down. Maybe it was the hit he took against Washington because he took a few big ones in that game and that is when I started to notice a little more tender.

Re: Jimmy Graham

I can agree with the drops. That has been an issue since last year... he has mental farts and needs to work on his concentration. He's going to be unstoppable when it improves.

No doubt he is almost unstoppable. One of those hits in Washington scarred him. The one they fined I think Madieu Williams it was. I think he may have had a concussion or something because it is in his head it looks like. But in all fairness I thought he was dead after that hit.

Graham still has fire and he's still playing as hard...

Here's the problem with drops, same as interceptions and all stats - you have to watch the game to see what's going on so that accurate analysis can be done...

He's overworked - he's used to suck the defense in and then the other options begin to open up...the Joe Morgan TD - watch the previous plays and see how GB was set up...

J Graham is one of the few good things happening to this team right now...

Re: Jimmy Graham

I do watch the games every play and he has dropped many passes that he usually catches. The stat is the stat. He has been dropping for him a high amount of balls. It's unusual.

I 100% disagree with you on this. JG has dropped a few passes nothing to get fired up over that. Plus it's just not the same when you're 0-4 and the other teams just has to point to the score boards...

We start winning the Beast Jimmy Graham will come back out

Re: Jimmy Graham

It looks like he is hearing footsteps, I have always worried about the big hits he takes and I think the one against Washington has stayed with him.

So he only gets fired up if we are winning. We were winning 24-6 against kc and I didnt see anything. It's more than that. I think he is hiding an injury, maybe his back or the huge collisions are taking a toll.

Re: Jimmy Graham

Ok I am not bashing him. Something is off it seems. No matter what he is still top tight end in league. I wouldn't be surprised if he had a concussion week 1.

Re: Jimmy Graham

I love Jimmy Graham, one of my favorite Saints, no question about it, so don't get me wrong here for pointing it out -- but sometimes, it seems to me like he is sorta disappearing from games after he gets his touchdown and does the dunk. I blogged about it, originally as kind of a joke -- but people's comments in this thread like "disappearing in the second half" and "doesn't look like he's trying out there" "looks like his fire is gone" are all kinda interesting comments to me. I feel like he generally looks on fire in the beginning of games, completely "normal" insane Jimmy Graham. Then in the 2nd half and end of games, I dunno, it feels sorta like I'm not hearing his name a lot. I can't put my finger on it, or figure it out. But he looks AMAZING early in the games, same as always, to me. It could maybe be a hidden injury that catches up to him, or defensive adjustments during the game, or something else.

papz 10-01-2012 10:59 AM

Re: Jimmy Graham

...or we just didn't make a big effort to get him the ball in the second half. He can't make plays if they ball isn't being thrown to him.

Re: Jimmy Graham

He has taken some big licks. When he is one of maybe two weapons the opposition has to make adjustments for usually, it's easy to make him less of a factor. Who didn't know Brees was going to throw the quick slant to him on the goal line?

Graham looks like he is in a tunnel. That's what happens if you get a concussion. Everything is slowed down.

Re: Jimmy Graham

His post catch antics lead me to believe he is listening to the media too much, getting full of his own hype. Don't get me wrong, he is amazing when he catches.

He looks sort of silly when he does his post catch for a 10 yard gain like he is a pass catching animal, then stone hands the next two passes.

More catch Jimmy, less "Jimmy Graham show".

Budsdrinker 10-01-2012 11:27 AM

Re: Jimmy Graham

Until our receivers find some consistency catching the ball and defense have to double team them Graham will face double and triple teams making it harder for him to see the ball. Colston looked pretty good yesterday but Moore needs to step it up. Devery is Devery, make an insane catch then drop one right in your hands. If I was Ellard I would make them each catch 100 balls a day off of the juggs machine after practice.

This.

Fundamentals all day long. Can't win if we can't catch the ball and Drew is putting it where it needs to be, especially yesterday against a quality secondary.

Jimmy catches the short TD pass, different game.

Sproles catches that little out-route pass, we win.

Totally agree with "W" on this one...

And as Emmett Smith would say of our defense is "debacled"

Check the hit during the Washington game. I thought his head was knocked off.
