Saints work out WR Deon Butler/Jason Hill

The Saints are working out free agent WR Deon Butler.

It's Butler's first workout since he was cut loose by the Seahawks. A 2009 third-round pick, injury limited Butler to five games and six catches last season. He'd be a pure depth signing for the Saints.

Defense??
Why are they not trying to improve there? Is there anyone out there on the market that could be inserted onto the D line?

I doubt it. Everyone we have is average. There are no above average D-linemen waiting for a call.

Exactly, the good ones would have been signed in the offseason; which is when we should have signed, but...

...we were a little distracted with a new basketball team acquisition...

...then there was the matter of Rodger Goodell's bountygate...

...not to mention we were locked in a contract dispute with Tom Condon...

...though we did add several linebackers, the defensive line, safeties, and offensive tackle positions just didn't command enough priority then...

You cant sign what is not available.

Try and find a Left Tackle... Just try and find one available and worth the paper to sign him.

You can only upgrade a position if upgrades are available.

Re: Saints work out WR Deon Butler

Deon Butler is a deep threat... Replacement for Meachem and situational.

He is 5'10' 183 lbs and runs a 4.38 in the 40... 4th among all WR in the 2009 Combine, and 11.3 60yd shuttle 3rd in the combine.

He is a hair faster than Meachem@ 4.39
and a match with Henderson. 4.32-4.4

We signed a guard off the Falcon's practice squad. They should put him in at tackle. Evans and Nicks were converted tackles. Why could they not convert a guard to tackle.

If they are not good enough to start for the Falcons, and NO OTHER team poached them from their practice squad through week 4 = not a starter.

Maybe depth.. Not a starter.

Saints o-line
9 sacks / 18 QB hits
yards/rush 4.3

Falcons o-line
11 sacks / 22 QB hits
yards/rush 4.1

Who would you suggest he replace? You don't reform a guard to Tackle mid season.

The Saints are working out free agent WR Jason Hill.

The Saints are also working out Deon Butler, and apparently looking for depth at receiver. Hill was signed by the Broncos in February, but didn't survive camp cuts. He caught 25 passes for 367 yards and three touchdowns in Jacksonville last season.

I wonder just how much the new basket ball acquisition had to do with it? You can only keep so many irons in the fire before you run out of room.
We certainly miss our GM......you know that by now he would have been wheeling and deadling to get a few new players in here.

Great... WR's, not defense...
WR's...
Fantastic.
What we really need is more RB's on the roster...

Damn this team

Proof the Saints Front Office comes to B&G... the FO reads all the "our problem is the offense not the defense threads".

Wasn't Arian Foster a Practice Player ?

Lance Moore was a Practice Player

Maybe Henderson is hurt more than they are telling. Remember he was pretty much knocked out cold in the Skins game.

For defense I would look toward the Packers over the Falcons, we have had good luck with players from Green Bay.

I wouldn't read too much into this, just typical in-season tryouts, same stuff Loomis does a few hundred times per season. More like just in case someone gets hurt down the line can add these two guys to the emergency list.

The Saints called me earlier today. I told 'em I'd catch anything they throw at me. The problem is that I'm slow, old, and I'd need to drop about 30 pounds.

But I swear I'da caught that ball Sprolsie dropped.

I dont' think they're going to call me back...

We need to sign some of whatever Alabama State has as scrubs their not using on their Defense, im sure anybody they are willing to give up are a miraculous upgrade to what we have now.

Usually you don't convert a guard to tackle because they don't have the footwork required to play on the outside.

Nicks for example does not have good enough feet to play on the outside and was therefore moved to guard.

Yep.. And they both were on their own teams practice squads before they made the line up. They were not pulled from other teams practice squads...
They were projects for their own team.

Also, Neither were linemen... different animal.

Also.. Had Loomis found this talent I might have a different opinion.
