Saints RB Sproles makes point to learn, move on from dropped third-down pass

METAIRIE, La. – Darren Sproles turned to head up the field, wide open space the only thing in between the New Orleans Saints running back and the end zone.

Only, he did it the same time the ball arrived at his fingers from quarterback Drew Brees.

The end result?

A rare drop from the consistently clutch running back, a mistake that he went over in mind against and again and one that played a part in the Saints losing at Green Bay this past Sunday.

“I lost some sleep over that play, but I made a point to go out after practice just to catch a little bit to get my confidence up but I’m fine now,” Sproles said Wednesday. “It killed me, but it’s in the past now. I’ve just got to go out and make another play.”

Indeed, Brees and Sproles spent time after practice running the same play over and over. The quarterback made sure to add that each time they ran it, the pass was completed.

He took the play personally.

“Oh yeah, especially when I feel like I let my team down,” Sproles said.
“That messed with me though, you know what I’m saying, so I spent a little time after practice getting it right. ... It was a game-changer. If I would have just caught it, we had the first down and then we could have run a little more time out of it.”

Well, I'm glad he feels better about it because I sure in the hell don't .

He can't and won't let it get to him, won't be last pass he drops in his career. Gotta prepare for next pass like he has done and will do probably every day this year. He is a solid professional, and get's it. I would like to think everyone on our team get's it like he does, but i have some serious doubts.

He'll make up for it by catching the TD pass to break the record AND give a nice "IN YA FACE" to all those Chargers

What more can the man do than what he did?

* admitted he blew it
* took steps to make it unlikely to happen again
* plays his arse off for us

I'd love it for the Brees to Sproles connection to be the one that breaks Unitas' record (poetic justice vs. their old team: Chargers).

And also... let's WIN the game!

WhoDat!

I'd say he has more than made up for one mistake even before it happened.

Sproles is clutch. Everyone makes mistakes sometimes. Drew does, PT, Colston. Hell even Shanle has a bad game every now and then.

He admitted he made a mistake. Something that is not allowed in the world today, it is always somebody Else's fault. Ask any politician.

That is the mark of a Champion. Identify the issue, plan corrective action, spend time correcting the issue, confidence is returned.

Players that "hang on" lose confidence, lack of confidence equates to a second guess which can cost a player a second... The NFL is about fractions of seconds, and lack of confidence can be debilitating.
