Has there been any talk out of camp to use Will Smith as a LB on some obvious running downs. From everything Ive read and heard about the guy seems like hes fast enough and athletic enough to maybe us him there. Just wanted to know if there was any chance of that happening.

There was some talk earlier this year right after the draft that Smith maybe called upon to be the fourth linebacker in passing situations but nothing about it since. If Jaws from ESPN is correct Smith could line up at any position and have an impact.

Just seems to me you put your best players on the field and if hes one of them on the defensive side then you get him on the field whenever and wherever you can.

What about moving Howard to tackle and inserting Smith at end on obvious passing downs. 3 pure pass rushers may help the CBs in coverage. They have to bring a lot of heat this year or the DBs are going to be toast

During third-down drills, the Saints displayed a sub-package of the new Delta package they will utilize on passing downs in effort to have DEs Darren Howard, Charles Grant, and Will Smith all on the field at one time. This particular sub-package involves a three-man front with two linebackers, Derrick Rodgers acting as a roaming blitzer. The wrinkle comes in the secondary, where the Saints implement three cornerbacks as well as their top three safeties Tebucky Jones, Jay Bellamy, and Mel Mitchell all on the field at the same time. I am interested to see how creative the Saints can get with their personnel packaging in the upcoming season.
