NEW ORLEANS — Saints offensive lineman Ben Grubbs once opined the only thing man is granted is hope.

It’s not far-fetched to say that before Sunday night, that’s about all the Saints had to show for itself after an 0-4 start to this anything-but-normal season.

There was no swagger.

There was no confidence.

There was no, well, no bravado.

Just hope.

Nearly three-and-a-half hours after Sunday night's game began, as Oct. 7 turned into Oct. 8, it’s safe to say they’ve still got hope thanks to a 31-24 win over San Diego.

And now they’ve got the swagger and confidence and bravado they sorely lacked in the opening quarter of the season.

Thanks to a change in game plan and maybe even philosophy, the Saints were able to show us who we thought they were.

Our defense still sucks and our o-line is going to get brees killed.

True, but the defense proved if they can play 1 complete quarter a game, that's all the team needs to win some games.

Also, the Chargers were not a cup-cake opponent - just sayin.

If it makes you feel any better, I can guarantee you we'll pitch a shutout next week.

with a possibly season changing victory last night where there was improvement in all phases except runninng the ball but i'll give it a passing grade because of the better playaction rythum causing eyeballs to bite and theres somebody that will never join the victory party. pat urself on the back soulman.

I just hope they can squeak out wins against tough opponents. We are in the position now to win close games.

I didn't think the defense was all that bad...
