I have to admit

I went to the game just hoping that Drew would set the record and not really caring if we won or not because I didn't want to mess up our next draft, but I admit that after spending 3 hours watching rivers run up to the referrees waving his arms and yelling and throwing his little hissy fits play after play after play that by the end I was saying "To heck with the future; Send that whining baby back home to his mommy with a big L".

Re: I have to admit

IF, and its a big IF... IF we can win our next two after the bye, I think we have a legit shot at a wildcard spot. We'd be 3-4 and playing most of the teams we need to beat to make the playoffs.

Call me crazy but I think this team is capable of going on a 9-2 run.

I don't know why that would be crazy. I think they can still win the division...but only because there is so much football left and I've learned from many past experiences that I don't know nothing about what is going to happen until it happens.

A normal year I would say yes, the failcons could have some bad luck and we could get hot and embark on a long winning streak, but without Sean, and ANOTHER coaching change on the horizon, I just don't see that happening.

The coaching change in the horizon is not a bad thing at all, on the contrary: Kromer will be back to full o-line coaching duties. I actually expect the o-line to be better after that. I also expect the LB play to pick up a bit: right now, the have 0 attention from Vitt. When Vitt comes back, they at least have some attention from him.

Re: I have to admit

I think some are looking at the Wild Card spot as it has been for the NFC in previous years as something you need to be 12-4 to get. There have been huge upsets in the NFC pretty much each week that will come back to haunt other teams as much as ours will come back to haunt us.

I know this is HUGELY premature but... Odds have us still in the hunt at 1-4. ( just realized this was up and running all season.)
NFL.com - Playoff Picture

We are 0-1 in the Division.. beat the Bucks and we jump 3 spots. Thankfully we are pulling our sh1t together before we have played all but one Division game.

There are going to be some crazy azzed tie breakers this year. mark my words.

Yes, EVERYONE is still in the hunt. Including the Saints.

Fat lady sit down.

And possibly 3 or 4 way ties, which can negate a head to head victory.

It ain't over... if we keep winning that is.

Just when Kromer starts to get some fire in him is reign as head coach will be over. He was screaming at the OL on the bench after one series and talking to the Dline on another occasion Sunday night. It was good to see.

That probably part of the success. He has been playing HC and not screaming at the linemen.

Linemen need to be screamed at.

Re: I have to admit

Speaking of screaming at people -- the other thing I keep touting about Vitt coming back, is you have to look at Vitt's role when Payton is here. He is NOT just a position-oriented, subordinate linebackers coach with one job, like Kromer is. Vitt is Payton's Mr. Fix It -- if there is a problem or situation, Vitt is like quality control, a detail person, take this thing and make such-and-such happen -- if someone needs chewing out, if someone is underperforming, if mental mistakes keep happening, if some problem with the team needs to be figured out in the film room and fixed before next week, Payton sends Vitt to do it. Remember the narrative of the bounty stuff, Payton instructed Vitt "to keep an eye on" Williams. He's like a quality control and detail-oriented guy. That's actually his main deal, FIXING PROBLEMS and getting ___ done that needs to happen. And as a coach, he has seen it all before.

Having that guy in the Mr. Fix It mode, to make problems disappear like Wolf from Pulp Fiction ("That's thirty minutes away. I'll be there in ten") is going to improve the team greatly.

LB play should get better if Vilma and Hawthorne can get back on the field as well.

Well I think you're crazy. Through 5 games we have given up the second most yards on defense...EVER. Our defense is THAT bad. We're giving up what, an average of 30 points a game?

I take it back. I don't think you're crazy. You are hopeful. I am too. Anything could happen. Still, we gave up over 400 yards Sunday night...again.

I want to be wrong so bad I can't stand it. I want that 9-2 run so bad it hurts. I'd LOVE to shove an amazing comeback story like that right up Roger's nozzle - oh how I'd love it. I hope and I pray.

But I'm afraid that even with improvement on defense - and we did see some Sunday night - 9-2 is a very tall order. Getting our defense back to the middle of the pack, which I think will be required for 9-2, is a very tall order considering just how bad it is.

But you're not crazy. You're a Sunshiner. I'm a founding member of that party. I'm trying Danno. Truly I am trying.

Re: I have to admit

I think Danno is making a logical prediction, not an emotional wish. If you just look at the Saints performance I tend to think your right and wrong at the same time. Yes the numbers from week one until now are correct... But the trend tells a different story.

Week 1 - Game up 40
Week 2 - Gave up 35
Week 3 - Gave up 27
Week 4 - Gave up 27
Week 5 - Gave up 24

I do not care about yards, we are mid league in Red Zone. If you scratch Week 1 we ave 28.25 PPG.. 25th in the league.

We all knew Spags defense would take a few games to start to gel, and it has.

Now look at the remainder of our games:
Tampa Bay x2
Denver
Philadelphia
Atlanta x2
Oakland
San Francisco
NYG
Dallas
Carolina

I only see San Francisco being a probable loss and NYG being very difficult considering how they play late in the season. Denver will be interesting but not a battle royal.

We are 1-4 now... By week 16 that puts us 12-6. No 9 game winning streak needed. We have also seen that with the exception of Atlanta and Houston, everyone is dropping should have won games. Atlanta's time is coming, I think they peaked too early in the season, Houston lost Cushing and they will be a problem for them.

Can somebody tell me what happens if we have a better division record than the Falcons but they are better over all. They would still win the division?

Yes. Overall record decides the division
If there is a tie then head to head match up
And then division win %
Then common opponents win %
then conference win %
If there's still a tie, then there is a battle to the death between back up quarterbacks using mutually agreed upon hand held weapons.

Or at least I think that's how the tie breakers work.

(Edit: Ok scratch that last one, it turns out "Strength of Victory" means something totally different)
