I sometimes wonder if some of the generalized ragging on Roman Harper has something to do with this. Also Malcolm Jenkins who I believe played for Ohio State against LSU in the BCS Championship game. Not wanting to discuss those players here in this thread, but certain people do rag on these two Saints players, again and again and again, constantly. Repeat, I'm NOT WANTING TO DISCUSS THEM HERE, lol.

I have no real love for LSU in particular, but I do love it when LSU and Louisiana native guys do really well in the NFL. It's part of why I'm homeristic aboutTracy Porter (and I will say this, as an aside, Porter has kept his non-profit charity active in Louisiana, in spite of him moving to Denver, which people should like him for even if they don't like him as a player).

I think it comes down to 2 categories.

1) People who like them because they are from La.
2) People who like them as football players

As for me, I can't stand the offspring. The love affair people have in this state for them is amazing considering they haven't done squat for this state!

As a football player, I love them. I love the game of football. I'm not going to hate them because they are not playing for the Saints. I love them for what they bring to the game as competitors.

Pretty fair comment. I am a mix.. Origin doesn't matter to me.. indifferent. They are good football players, that cant be taken away from them. Their attitudes stink and I think they act like brats. If they are not in my face I am 100% indifferent, they have never done anything for me or to me. If I have to listen to the complaining from Eli, or see Payton throw a tantrum, I change the channel.

On the origin part... I have no allegiance to anyone from Louisiana that has no allegiance to Louisiana. Neither of them have shown any love for the state after High School.

I am not from new Orleans so I have never been subjected to Archie other than on the field, and I was 12 when he went to the Oilers.

I have met Archie once, in Destin Fl. He was walking down the beach with Cash that owned Cash's bar and night club. He he was a nice guy.

They are both La. boys. Their father was the best football player ever for the Saints(at the time) and was the only bright spot on a crappy team. They sat in the stands and watched their father play and rooted for my team. I like them. They are both good at what they do and deserve at least my respect.(not that that says alot)lol
Also, I could care less if they didn't go to LSU.....ROLL TIDE!!!

They're one of the first families of New Orleans!

Also I remember a fan party -- the "Official Who Dat Fan Club-- who's president was Pete Fountain -- a fan party in the Hilton, Riverside--- huge ballroom, Benson was there shaking hands, so were the Saintsations. Well Archie showed up to speak, and in 1988, fans still chanted "Archie! Archie! Archie!

He's still my favorite Saint!

Great Post, Mike. Reflects the way many of us love and appreciate Archie and his family in South Louisiana.

And I'll add that Archie and his sons are alike in that they loathe drawing attention to themselves for their charitable work - they do it for the right reasons...

And another thing, I have never met a more gracious celebrity in person in my life than Archie Manning; we all have dreams of being the star quarteback, well, I wanted to be like him as a person after having met him multiple times - just a great, great person...
