Defense Installs New Delta Package !
 

The Saints gave the fans at training camp the first look at the new wrinkle in the defense known as the delta package.It will feature Will Smith at RT End,Darren Howard moving to the tackle position,Bryan Young manning the other tackle position,Charles grant at Left End,LB Derrick Rodgers roaming behind the line as a blitzer.The formation also includes three CB's (Thomas,Brown,and Craft). Rounding out the formation are three Safety's (Jones,Bellamy,and Mitchell).

This formation will be played in passing situations,and is designed to get maximum pressure on the QB while covering all zones and allowing one safety to be the rover or ball hawk.

With that much speed on the defensive side of the ball,I believe this formation will be extremely successful.It should bring alot of sacks and turnovers our way.

Can you imagine yourself as a QB having that front four coming after you along with Rodgers,and having to quickly find a passing lane against six very fast DB's? :P

Now THAT makes me smile. Very interesting. Who do you think came up with that one? Haslett? It sure as hell wasn\'t Venturi, I\'ll promise you that. Think Haslett, the ex-D Coordinator is getting more involved with his defense?

PS - betcha by year end Grant, who is faster and more athletic than Rodgers, and who played corner and safety in college, is playing in that package. Drop him into a middle zone and watch the safeties and corners fire!

It\'s about time Haz became more involved in the D since that\'s where he came from, it\'s also about time that we tried something new since the old stuff was\'nt working for us.

That\'s not the Delta package, as I understood it. Maybe I was told wrong. What you\'re describing (4 linemen, 1 linebacker, 6 secondary players) sounds like a dime package to me.
I was under the impression that the delta would include 3 linemen, 2 linebackers, and 6 in the secondary.

You are correct black and blue.

I think once this package is fully installed it will include two linebackers and take away Brian Young.

Then it would be Smith, Howard,and Grant on the line with rodgers standing up on the end and whoever the starting MLB is roaming as the blitzer.

I think they were just using Young in place of that second LB.

no matter what set they use... its all been done before. Its going to be the player they insert to the package and how they use them is whats going to matter
