Latest Vilma brief attaches whistleblower email from Cerullo

Attached to the brief is the email sent by former Saints assistant coach Mike Cerullo that resurrected the NFL’s investigation. In a November 2, 2011 message to NFL spokesman Greg Aiello, Cerullo states as follows: “So I have info on Saints Joe Vitt Lying to your NFL Investigators on Bounties from 2010, along with proof!!! I was there, in the cover up meetings, with players and Joe, I love the NFL and want to work there again, but I am afraid if I tell thge [sic] truth I will never coach again in NFL, But I was fired for a situation that the Saints encourage. All I want is a Job back in the NFL as a QC Coach anywhere, so If talking to you jepodizes [sic] that I will have to get back to you, but The Saints are a Dirty Organization. Contact me.”

The message contains proof of Cerullo’s alleged bias against Vitt. As alleged by Vilma earlier in this process, Cerullo had vowed revenge against Vitt for firing Cerullo. Separately, Cerullo’s zeal to return to the NFL calls into question everything he says. Also, Cerullo’s reference to being fired “for a situation that the Saints encourage” requires that claim to be explored and compared to the stated and actual reasons for his termination, in order to properly evaluate Cerullo’s overall perspective and mindset.

Well, Cerullo can forget about a job in the NFL now. He'll be lucky if he isn't targeted for some good times with soap bars and a pillow case.

No, he doesn't have to worry about that. He needs to worry about signing that declaration containing his lies. That can put him behind bars where they don't have pillow cases and bars of soap have other purposes.

He was a Failcones intern. I was not aware of this fact until today.

That's pretty much the end of it right there.

Wow he sounds like such a whiny little snit in that email. It's like a middle school student, wanting to snitch on someone who wouldn't go to the school dance with them.

If he was so concerned about what was going down, why didn't he tape record any of these meetings on the lowdown?

If the e-mail lfrom the NFL is in the incorrect format, Ginsberg is going to TEAR not only the message but the league a new one.

Have dealt with e-mail evidence in a courtroom (DOJ, FINRA, & SEC) and there are only 1-2 formats that are acceptable due to possible tampering. Ginsberg specified correctly in requests there is no way the league could remove any response to Cerillo. That one reference is something that is going to come up later.

If the league doesn't provide or have the messages in the correct format for the court they can and will get thrown out as evidence for/against the players.

There are too many forensic investigators that could tear anything in the incorrect format to peices and leave the attnys standing there with their mouth open...

If this gets into the courtroom - I have to buy a ticket...

Same here. Run infrastructure for 3 state & local government agencies and email archive requests can blow a house of cards down in seconds.

I've seen public records requests for emails shatter careers, put people in jail and end marriages.

This email is a teaser - the response to the email from the NFL to Cerullo probably exonerates Vilma and collapses the bubble around the NFL.

I hope an image of the email servers for the NFL is requested and granted to the NFLPA lawyers.

I want one email found, the one that states "we know everyone is going it but we are going to make the Saints the example for the league".

Or do anything about it until AFTER he was fired.

Especially since gODhELL basically upheld Fujita's suspension by proclaiming Fujita was on the Saints defense as a leader and should have known about Bounties anyway, therefore Fujita is guilty "just because."

......therefore Cerullo is guilty "just because".....

That's the reason why Vilma's legal team attached the email in their court motion to have the court help find another arbitrator besides Tagliabue. The email shows:
  • The NFL got a sketchy invite to hit the Saints from Cerullo
  • Cerullo was bargaining for information before giving it to the NFL (ie. I was fired, I'll give you trash on Saints if you make sure I get a job in NFL)
  • That there's an answer to Cerullo's email....
All of which will be subpoenaed to the court. If the NFL tampers with the evidence and that can be proven, people will go to jail.

It's another warning shot over the NFL's head to think twice or this case will become a federal circus where the NFL WILL BE EXPOSED.

This may be the one thing that keeps this out of court - settlement.

But, the settlement could be so "pricey" the league may push it.

Since day 1 Vilma has only asked that the charges against him be removed and a formal apology from Goodell and the league.

That's why this has followed so closely with the actual appeals process through the NFL. If the NFL successfully suspended Vilma for a year then yes the NFL would need to compensate him for his loss.

At this point I think Vilma is going to apologies, legal fees and compensation based off of overall loss to his image. Even a high 20 million dollar judgement against the NFL would be a drop in the bucket.

Again, previous settlement discussions revolved around Vilma not serving any time... not half a season as the NFL offered.

Believe me, if the NFL continues down the path they appear to be heading.... they'll have to settle for A LOT MORE MONEY than had they come to their senses at the beginning of the season.

It still angers me that there's no hope of getting Payton back.
