NFC Contenders' Corner (Playoff Contenders Info) Week 11

1 Attachment(s)
Bye Week for: Giants, Seahawks, Titans, Vikings

As the weeks narrow-down in this last half of the season, keep your eye on a KEY statistic: CONFERENCE LOSSES! Right now, among the NFC Wildcard contenders, only the Packers have FEWER losses to NFC opponents than the Saints. And even though many are talking about how tough it may be to catch the Seattle Seahawks, even they have four (4) losses to NFC opponents. What the Saints want to have (should they not make an UNLIKELY and miraculous run to capture the NFC South title) is to be TIED with three (3) or more NFC teams for a Wildcard spot, while having the BETTER record in the Conference. Again, right now, the Saints only have three (3) losses to NFC opponents. ***** WHO DAT!!!*****

Thursday November 15th

Week 11, Game 1: Dolphins @ Bills

N/A: AFC opponents

Sunday November 18th

Week 11, Game 2: Packers (6-3) @ Lions (4-5)

a. Why it is important: Both teams are NFC rivals. Packers have a 2 game lead on the Saints in the playoff race, and own the TIEBREAKER (head-to-head).

b. Desired outcome: Pull for the Lions. This is a near-desperation game for the Lions, who have great weapons at receiver, but are not much of a running threat. The slim chance for the Lions to win may be the fact that they are usually TOUGH at home. This is do or die, and the Lions are too one-dimensional.

c. Confidence factor for a good outcome: 4 out of 10

Week 11, Game 3: Cardinals (4-5) @ Falcons (8-1)

a. Why it is important: Both teams are NFC rivals. Falcons are a division rival, and lead the NFC South with an 8-1 record. Cardinals are 4-5, but have lost five in a row. They are due for a win, are well-rested, and coming off a BYE week. With the Falcons still reeling somewhat from their loss to the Saints, if the Cardinals get off to a quick start… it may take the Falcons out of their game plan.

b. Desired outcome: Pull for the Cardinals; but I can understand if some of you may want the Falcons to win in order to push the Cards further behind in the playoff picture. Given the fact that you want to be HOT as the playoffs approach, the Falcons may go into a tailspin should they lose to the other “birds” in the NFL. Again, I say pull for the Cardinals to upset the Dirty Birds!

c. Confidence factor for a good outcome: 4.5 out of 10

Week 11, Game 4: Bucs (5-4) @ Panthers (2-7)

a. Why it is important: Both teams are NFC South rivals. Buccaneers have a better W-L record at this point, but they already have four (4) NFC losses, as well as having lost the first head-to-head with the Saints. Panthers have a lot of pride, and always play Tampa tough in Charlotte.

b. Desired outcome: Pull for the Panthers. I believe this is going to be an “Upset Special.”

c. Confidence factor for a good outcome: 5.5 out of 10

Week 11, Game 5: Browns (2-7) @ Cowboys (4-5)

a. Why it is important: Cowboys are an NFC rival.

b. Desired outcome: Pull for the Browns. Cowboys have four (4) losses in the NFC, and cannot afford another setback in pursuit of a Wildcard spot. The Cowboys should be focused and ready for the Browns… but I hope I’m wrong. The only intangible is that the Browns have nothing to lose, and may be fired up to play spoiler vs. the Cowboys.

c. Confidence factor for a good outcome: 3 out of 10

Week 11, Game 6: Eagles (3-6) @ Redskins (3-6)

a. Why it is important: Both teams are NFC rivals. Redskins currently own the head-to-head TIEBREAKER with the Saints (should it come down to that at the end of the season).

b. Desired outcome: Pull for the Eagles. Saints own the TIEBREAKER with the Eagles. Also, the Eagles already have five (5) losses vs. NFC opponents; the Redskins have four (4).

c. Confidence factor for a good outcome: 4.5 out of 10

Week 11, Game 7: Jets (3-6) @ Rams (3-5-1)

a. Why it is important: Rams are an NFC opponent. Rams have one tie and three (3) losses to NFC opponents.

b. Desired outcome: Pull for the Jets, who will have a fired-up Jeff Fisher-led team coming off an emotional and impressive TIE vs. the 49’ers last week.

c. Confidence factor for a good outcome: 4 out of 10

Week 11, Game 8: Bengals @ Chiefs

N/A: AFC opponents

Week 11, Game 9: Jaguars @ Texans

N/A: AFC opponents

Week 11, Game 10: Saints (4-5) @ Raiders (3-6)

a. Why it is important: Saints still in the hunt for a playoff spot.

b. Desired outcome: Pull for the Saints. This will NOT be a “trap game.” Joe Vitt will have the Saints ready in every area. The game may be over before the end of the 3rd quarter. Raiders are coming off an embarrassing loss to the Ravens, who forced a 55-burger down their throat. If the Saints jump out to an early lead, it will NOT be pretty for the “Raiduh Nation!”

c. Confidence factor for a good outcome: 7 out of 10

Week 11, Game 11: Chargers @ Broncos

N/A: AFC opponents

Week 11, Game 12: Colts @ Patriots

N/A: AFC opponents

(SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL)

Week 11, Game 13: Ravens @ Steelers

N/A: AFC opponents (…but boy, will this be a good game or what??!!!)

Monday, November 19th (Monday Night Football)

Week 11, Game 14: Bears (7-1) @ 49’ers (6-2)

a. Why is it important: Both teams are NFC rivals. Both teams lead their respective divisions.

b. Desired outcome: Since we play the 49’ers later this season, and NOT the Bears, my call is for us to pull for the Bears (to knock the 49’ers down a peg). Either way helps AND hurts the Saints’ playoff hopes (to a certain extent). But overall, I feel a Bears’ win will go a lot further for the Saints. If you pull for the ‘Niners, I believe you can come up with a reasonable argument for that as well.

c. Confidence factor for a good outcome: 6 out of 10

It may be time to conceed the NFC North to the Bears and hope they win out, knocking all our competition down a notch.

After an 0-4 start, I'm sure we'll take the playoffs ANY WAY we can get it!

One-game-at-a-time, baby!

I'm still hoping we sneak into the playoffs as a 6th seed and end up knocking the Falcons out in their own house.

Well at least there is a good feel for OUR game. We do have to take care of what we control. The other stuff - my head is spinning.

We're on a roll, I hope we can win out and the falcons do go into a tailspin, losing 4 more. That would give us the division. But 11-5 would still put us in a nice position for a wild card berth. And before you poo poo this, remember last year, they won the last 8 straight.
