Saints RB Chris Ivory uses opportunity to shine

1 Attachment(s)
METAIRIE — Chris Ivory had to sit through seven games and a bye week before getting his first carry of the season with the New Orleans Saints.

But, as Ivory showed everyone the past two weeks by rushing for 120 yards and two touchdowns on a 7.1-yard average, it’s not about how long you have to wait, but what you do with the opportunity when it comes.

“It’s a great thing to be out there,” said Ivory, a man of few words, on Wednesday. “I’ve been waiting for it.”

Running like he was angry for not getting a shot earlier, Ivory stepped in when Darren Sproles was sidelined with a fractured left hand. He ignited a dormant running game that has produced 140 and 148 yards in wins over Philadelphia and Atlanta.

Some say he’s running angry and violently, but the chiseled, 218-pound Ivory prefers to call it aggressive running.

Whatever it is, it’s working.

When asked whether Ivory appears to be running angry, interim coach Joe Vitt said the staff has seen him run over defenders since 2010, when he made the roster as an undrafted free agent and went on to lead the team in rushing.

“That’s what he does,” Vitt said. “He’s one of those backs that does a great job of running behind his pads. He is one of those backs that, at his size, he can make you miss. At the same time, he can lower his pads and run over some people.”

Sooo...knowing this, you have kept him on the bench for the first 7 weeks meanwhile, our run game has sucked balls the first 7 weeks.

My interpretation then is, you knowingly have not put the best players on the field. It took the coaching staff 7 weeks to make a change. One could argue that it took Ivory talking to a reporter about his frustration of being on the bench and the coaching staff being asked about it, before he finally got a chance to actually play. The coach's should get just as much blame as the players for our first half of the season performance.

"Let them FEEL your presence"

"They don't WANT to tackle you"

Man, I hope this is a long ride. It feels GREAT. When we will need him is against San Francisco, at home. I can't remember who cracked P.T. last year, but if he pulls that with Ivory... bring on the stretcher!

Would love to see him get 200 yards in Oakland.

Heard its supposed to be a wet game, so it sounds like a great day to just pound that rock and feed all the RBs.

Ivory is looking especially "Mack Truck-ish" this year, so turn him loose again

His style doesn't lend itself to a long NFL career, but he certainly gets the most out of every run doesn't he.

He's like a faster Marion Barber.

I love Ivory, plays every play the way each player should with heart, he is the purest runner we have had in a long, long time,McCalister and Muncie being the others. Ivory hasn't had nearly the touches as Ingram, Ingram seems to truely benifit off of Ivory as far a yds. gained and to be honest that tandam could be the best in the leage if the play-calling is right. PT fits in better with Ivory much better than lining up with Ingram. I would love to see Sproles line up with Ivory, talk about an opposing D having to guess. Ivory to me is the piece to the puzzle we were missing and in all fairness should be the center-piece of the RB's and the play-calling around him. 15-20 touches a game is what is needed out of him, not 10 or 7, thats bull-crap, the coaches covering the butts for not coaching properly. Point made simple, feed him, we win!! Don't well we know how that went!!

I gotta quote this one 'cos it's EXACTLY what I was thinking. Ivory with PT, Ingram with Sproles, mix that up...good lord!

IF

IF Ivory could run like this for a full football season without injury, there would be NO ANSWER for our offense.

The man is physically peaking and some coach needs to be docked over his inactivity. He must've lipped-off to someone at some time during the pre-season is all I can figure.

Let's just sit back and enjoy the ride!
